Fun! Probably good gyros, too. I love 'em. There's this popular Greek place just up the street, been in biz for 25 years at least, excellent Greek food, one of my faves is the gyros plate, w. lots of spicy tzatziki [sp?] sauce and onions, yum. They've got these big rotary upright radiant cookers where they grill/bake the lamb shanks, carve off big hunks, lean and juicy. Ahhh, I think this weekend it's gonna be gyros! **

** pronounced "heer-oos" with a little glottal stop.

"Year-Oh's" is how it is pronounced here. And yes, there is a huge Greek immigrant population around here and Detroit, and I worked for some Greek guys in the restaurant business for 10 years.

"Friggin delicious" is how it's pronounced at Jerry's. :tooth:

But yeah, I've always heard it pronounced with a "Y", not an "H".

That's how 2 separate friends pronounced it. Both of them had both sets of grandparents who came from Greece. It's also how they pronounce it in Tarpon Springs, FL (which has a very high Greek population.)
    Meh.
