Concealed Carry in Illinois

JayhawkerJayhawker Posts: 18,359 Senior Member
Thought I had seen something here concerning this but I could be mistaken. As of July 9, we non-Illinoisians no longer have to avoid the entire state in our travels.

http://www.isp.state.il.us/firearms/ccw/ccw-faq.cfm

The pertinent details follow:

However, out of state residents are granted a limited exception to lawfully carry a concealed firearm within a vehicle if they are eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence and are not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law. This rule becomes effective immediately.

If the non-resident leaves his/her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of the Firearm Concealed Carry Act.

Some progress; at least one won't get arrested for passing through.

Now the only thing needed is a reason to go to Illinois.

Fixed it for ya. There is no reason to go to Illinoise until they recognize the Constitution again.

Our reason is you can't get there from here or you have to take a ferry across Lake Michigan or add a few 100 miles..

At that, it is bad enough avoiding Chicago.

Thanks for the legwork Jayhawker. Hopefully I won't need it but if I do I'll have it.
We're not going anywhere near Chicago.

As I've said before, the long-suffering, endangered and oppressed people of Illinois are still a few legal challenges away from genuine CCW. See ya in court.

Will make passing through much easier in the future.

Go through it or go to it, the same. It's up east and that means rust belt, liberals, and snow. I hate snow.

The problem is that Illinois blocks my path to Kansas.

Well, the real problem is that you're starting on the wrong side of Illinois in the first place, it seems. You should already be living on the Kansas side of Illinois so that you don't have to pass through it. ha ha

In all fairness, get outside of Chicago and cook county and the rest of the state is pretty decent.mostly conservative and rather gun friendly.

Wife and I took a trip to Chicago a few years back, with the goal of using the public transit system entirely. Train into Union Station, got a pass for 3-day unlimited bus/subway/el use, and saw the sights. Taxis only twice, once on arrival to get to the hotel, then one evening for the theater.

Always went with caution in mind, although public transport was clean, well-maintained, and seemed largely problem-free. The culture there though is a bit different.

We left the theater to a guy on the curb aggressively flagging down taxis for departing patrons. Apparently a homeless or nearly-so dude, who really got irate if someone didn't tip him generously for his unsolicited assistance. Only point in the trip where I was mildly apprehensive and would have been more comfortable with something a bit more than a strong voice.

You don't HAVE to pass through Hellinois to get to KS from TN.

No... but it does make for a shorter trip.

Glad you made it out in one piece. I cannot imagine going to Chicago on purpose. What's that about?

Fascinating city, if you can ignore the politics and corruption. Navy Pier, the Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Natural Science, and local businesses and landmarks are quite interesting, including the fountain so familiar to fans of "Married...With Children" - all worthwhile sights.

The seedier sides of Chicago, however, make me very nervous on a personal safety level.

Yeah, but can you get a decent pizza? I hear there's a lot of that strange deep-dish thick-crust action goin' on. EEEK.

If the rest of you states ever decide to invade Illinois, I'll help you from behind enemy lines. Just let me know when you're coming.

My grandfather's brother was a live-in superintendent of an apartment building somewhere in Chicago for over 40 years. I think he owned the place, but I'm not sure of that. Back in the 1950's when we visited them for a few days it was a pretty nice place. I think the last time I was there was 1957, and I can't recall leaving anything there then that's been worth going back to look for. Ditto for Commiefornia- - - -we left there in early 1980, and I can't think of a reason to go back, ever!

Welcome to Southern Arizona! We have 2 seasons here - summer and Christmas Day. In winter, you can skinny dip in your swimming pool and go skiing the same day up in the mountains. The icing on the cake - Constitutional carry. Enjoy.

Talked about AZ. I'd like it. Wife likes the Carolinas. Depends on which is closer to the kids when they finally settle, but AZ is definitely on the charts. Love your Governor!
