Be careful with that. I believe that the DNR doesn't allow handgun hunting with a with a magazine capacity over 8 rounds.
I think you're right. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to rethink my short range option. I may not even be able to carry it while hunting. Great, now I have to read the hunting guide. I seem to recall a notice they emailed me stating that they have made several changes to the old rules. I certainly don't want to break any laws.
I think I'm going to use my 1860-manufactured Pattern 53 Enfield rifle with the 500-grain Minie' bullets and 60 grains of 3-F black powder. Once the smoke clears, I'll be able to see whether or not I hit anything! I'll try the .460" patched round balls this time, and see if they're more accurate than the Minies.

I went out yesterday and started to take my Kentucky. 45 Cal, decided that the shorter plains rifle may be better since I would be in a tree stand and brought home a nice does, but. I know that there,s a large buck there.Didn't,t go out today so next week I'll have to go with my bow.Gunseason comes in about two weeks from now, then it'll be my. 308 Rem 700 or the Savage .270.
I've been thinking about trading in my usual Remington 700 .30-06 for a Charter Arms AR-7 takedown .22. It's a lot lighter to carry, and would be equally effective on the deer I don't see and don't shoot at.
He thinks three overlapping holes at 100 yards might put a deer in the weeds! That's a load he picked at random from the Nosler manual, and didn't tinker with at all!

My 'go to ' gun this year for the next deer is going to be my 204 Ruger..................seriously.
I figure a Hornady 45Gr SP travelling at around 3500-3650fps will be just the bee's knee's for Fallow. Finished floating the barrel yesterday......will pick up some dies & powder tomorrow, there is a long weekend coming up so I should be able to work up a load and test it sunday.
Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....
Looks like it will be my Stevens 7-08. Should get my bullets tomorrow. I already have a load that works, just need to put them together and double check.
Are you sure? I mean.......with your track record and all.......................
Just a suggestion.

The SST's should work fine. If the NBT's don't shoot well, do me a favor and pass them along. Those were all given to me by one hella guy. His only request was to give them to someone that could put them to good use. That is all he asks in return.

My step-dad gave me all his stuff. The best word to describe his stuff is awesome in the most profound way. He sold off his guns. He is just fine in the HD and SD category, but in the 40 years that I have known him, he has hunted only a couple of times. Most of them was to take me hunting. He sold off his very extensive collection of hunting rifles. He gave me all of the handloads, powder, primers, bullets, and reloading equipment (which is truly awesome). My job is to find it all good homes. I really, really, really want SS3 to get a .350 Remington mag.... Really! 6mm is going to my daughter, 6.5 Rem mag to my son. There is other stuff out there looking for a home.
This is the last and only time I will talk about this in public. If you could post a group or something in return, that is plenty of thanks.

I've been using 140 gr Nosler Ballistic tips in my 7mm-08s since 1987. A few years back there were no 140 gr Ballistic tips to be had anywhere, so I tried a box of 139 gr Hornady SSTs. I used the same charge of IMR-4064 as I had with the Noslers. I chrono'd them and the velocity couldn't have been closer unless it was the same:jester:
Anyway, I didn't kill anything big that year, but I did take 3 does using the Hornady SSTs at various ranges from up close (10 to 40 yds) and one around 100yds. The accuracy was every bit as good or maybe a just a tad better than the Noslers and performance was the same (big gaping holes).
The next year I went back to Noslers for no other reason than nostalgia--and I don't like cannelures:tooth:

just once, I would like to have all hunting stuff ready to go weeks before season.
.
I've been thinking that for over 25 years. Nowadays I just accept that I'm gonna be messing with rifles and ammo down to the wire, lol... Gonna be loading and shooting for the next two weekends for sure.

Got the new Marlin XS .243 hitting well out to 300+ yards- - - -guess it can be a backup or a loaner in case I get a visiting hunter without a boom stick, which has happened before.
Jerry
Rifles and ammo ain't such a thing. I know I can stuff a 139 gran SST over 40 grains of Varget and go. (Which I will for me) I'm pretty sure I can do that exact same thing with NBTs and be just fine.
It's just EVERYTHING ELSE. Hunting clothes, food, gear, etc etc. at least the camper is set up, and we have a metric butt ton of firewood. Youth season is next Saturday. I'm gonna have a busy weekend.
Yeah, in Spring time the season seems a long way off but seems like it's always suddenly upon us and we have to scramble. part of it I guess
