Blooded the 40X this morning

I have been out a few morning this week hunting Mule Deer. Yep, I feel good enough to be out hunting-It is about time!
It is not hard hunting, but at least I am out some. Passed up on several bucks many would shoot, but I am looking for a mature buck. I am letting the little and mid-sized live to breed and get bigger.
I have had my Rem 40X, chambered in 308 Win with me to hunt. Mueller APT 4.5-14 scope, Weaver Tactical Rings, Hornady brass, Varget and the 168 grain A-Max.
I have a guy who has been bugging me to sell it to him, so I probably will, if he gets permission from the boss:jester:
This morning as I was working my way toward the road to head home, I saw a coyote. I was already going very slow on the two track, so I got my hearing protection in, and lasered him from the Tahoe. Wind was down at the time and almost a complete tail wind. The 168 grain A-Max did its job @ 466 yards:jester:
Talk about a "meat report!":agree:

Nice shooting! But isn't 466 yards a chip shot for you? :jester: How much hold over?

    Awesome!

Target rifle, shooting match bullets, and a Mule Ear scope.

I'm surprised you were able to kill the coyote! Congratulations! You're an even better shot than I knew you to be.
    Overkill is underrated.

I like the long guard hairs. Too bad the back side has a right nice size hole in it.

Glad you're feeling more better and out hunting! Looks like the time off hasn't taken the edge off your shooting skills. Hope you find that mature mulie before season closes, too.

I am just leaving the property where I hunt.
    I could've taken a medium size or medium large 4 x 4 mule deer
But I was looking for something larger than I already had so I passed them all up.
All the shots would've been under 200 yards.
I am just going to let them grow and get bigger.
I've made quite a bit of progress just in one week time.

I lasered and dialed first, but then he ran further away, so I guessed the the further distance and holdover and held about 4" over his back-Still shot a tad low.
I knew I didn't have time to range him again.
I never holdover for my correction at medium to long range. This was a medium range shot.
I ranged him a second time after he was down.

    Thank you.
I actually had fun for the whole day. This is the first time in just two months that I have felt this good.

    Excellent.

That is the best part of the hunt report Ernie. Being out there and doing it probably did more good than most other treatments.

    It was definitely fun.
I'm paying for it today though.
I may have a little too much fun...Oh well, at least I learned my limitations.

You got me on that one:tooth:
Well, I went ahead and did it.
It is not sold yet, but it is out there now.
I must confess (QUIT GLOATING ZEE!!), there is a touch of sadness. Sort of like the 308.
That was my confession for the day:yikes:

Yeah we will be building Erik his 308 Winchester rifle for F-class.
Who knows, it may not even sell.
