Astra Constable 22 cal.

Has anyone had trouble with an Astra Constable 22 cal. not ejecting spent cartridges? I have had it examined by a gunsmith who says it's ok?? I have had about a 80% success with mini-mags but it will no longer eject regular 22 LR.

Not familiar with the pistol but I'll assume it's a semi-auto. A lot of pistol are ammo sensitive. The best is probably CCI and Federal. I have had nothing but trouble with Remington .22's. They misfire, won't feed, or won't eject, the stuff is junk. If the gunsmith says it's OK than try other ammo, but I don't think any will work better than the mini-mags.

It's a very good pistol. I had one in .380, and it was top notch, beating the PPK in certain areas (according to some sources.) Twenty-twos are generally kind of pickish in ammo. Try cleaning it very well and that might help.

I wish I still had mine.

No Photo. When fired the slide does come back and forth, but the cartridge is still in the barrel.

Another thing. Once the cartridge fails to eject, I can manually pull the slide to the rear and the cartridge is ejected.

Now I would say that you may have a burr on the edge of the chamber, causing the fired case to stick. This would be caused by dry firing the pistol. Being a rim fire, the firing pin will beat on the edge of the chamber. A good gunsmith should have a swaging tool, to remove chamber burrs, a simple and common project. Next guess would be the extractor and spring.

Thanks. The spring and ejector are said to be ok by the gunsmith, I will have him check for burrs.

I did see a burr/dent at the top of the chamber. Tried to fix with the tools I have, but could not, will see a gunsmith later this week.
