Charge it for a long time? Sometimes they do that when the battery is almost completely exhausted.

Left it on charge over night, no change. Do the batteries on these crap out, it is only about 2 years old if that?

    bummer.

depending on how old it is and if its still under warranty or an extended warranty, apple may fix or replace it.

one of my friends was fixing them for extra $$$ since the first couple gens were easy to fix and many people were selling them since they were broke and didnt want the hassle of DIY.

you can google the issue and see what comes up. I wouldnt be surprised if its an known issue and there is probably a utube vid of a fix.

    good luck

Both my wife and I have had batteries wear out on cellphones, but usually more than 2 years of life.

At two years you are most likely out of warranty. If you bought it with an AMEX they double the warranty period for free, so that is a possibility.

Replacing a battery is sometime more than it is worth but yes sometimes they do crap out that early. Apple store will tell you.

My wife's ASUS battery ran totally dead and when recharged had to hold on button down for at least 8 seconds before it turned on.
    No manual reset button.

See if there are repair shops in area. Check the local malls, the Canton Mall has a kiosk where they repair Apple stuff.....

What Chris said. If the logic board gets fried the thing still works, but there is no illumination. If that isn't it and it needs a new battery, that is easy on those. They are similar to the old iPhone up to the 3gs. I used to be able to change a screen in about 5 minutes on those. The battery was right below that.

Son said he can see the icons if he holds it just right, can the logic board be fixed?

Wife got on the horn with the helpful guy at Apple today and he walked her through a restore with a blank screen, it came back on minus his pictures, something bunged up the software in general, happy son # 2 again!
