Thanksgiving 9 Years ago
My wifes last Thanksgiving, too weak to cook, my girls and I did our first turkey and trimmings. It was the last decent meal Vicky had and the last decent time we had with her. She entered the hospital Monday and passed on Dec 16 at 45 yrs old, most of that time in an induced coma. Toughest thing I ever had to do and I still have nightmares about, agreeing to let them stop giving her blood, essentially letting her bleed to death. I know medically it was the right choice but I will go to my grave wishing I said no.
Cancer sucks.
Sorry for the vent but it makes me feel better and I do have lots to be thankful for, just wish I was sharing it with her.

There are always things to be thankful for, but it's the things that we do that "need to be done" that define us.
Enjoy the day as best you can, with whomever you can, and rest easy.
That and that.
Yes, God rest her soul and may you and your children find peace...
That is why I donate some percentage of my grits/cornmeal profits (it varies with business expenses) to the Mayo Clinic for cancer research. All of us have lost close family members to this horrible disease....all of us! The progress that Mayo has made in cancer research is awesome beyond belief! Do your research on this and see what I am talking about!
BAMAAK, your position is understood, and I admire you for it. Some of us have faced this issue also. I did with a son many, many years ago. What I see in what you are expressing is total devotion and love of a mate and a family. This speaks far more than you realize, and I admire you for your devotion. Be gentle with yourself.

The memories that you dug up weren't buried very deep. We spent Thanksgiving '04 at Ronald McDonald House, next door to Dornbecker in Portland, OR. Very bitter/sweet memories.
