Talk to me about the 8x56R Hungarian/Austrian- Mannlicher Styer Stutzen model 95s

Who owns one? Is it worth the trouble to buy one and reload for? Bullets are not that common for reloading, but brass can be formed from 7.62X54R, but loaded one at a time because they won't fit in the required clip required to load a full loading which ejects out the bottom when empty.

privi partizan sells ammo for them. 208 grainers.

Why does the Budapest model cost more than the Austrian one? $199 and $139 respectively.

I'll bet they kick like the proverbial mule too. But...............I'm thunking about one just because.

Here is a video of a guy shooting one.

Whats not to like? Cool looking, fun to shoot and cheap! I've really enjoyed mine. The PPU ammo isn't cheap but it's good brass and Grafs has bullets. I actually need to get some, have the dies and a bunch of primed brass waiting. Suplus ammo isn't too hard to find, it's a good way to get the en bloc clips you'll need. I think the Budapest ones are a little scarcer.

Man, yours is in great looking shape. Is that recent or older purchase?

Also, I've heard from several sources that loading them one at a time isn't a good idea becuase it will break the extractor pretty quickly.

Thanks! The lighter colored one is just a plain jane Bulgarian refurb. I stripped the shellac off and rubbed in some blo, but that's it. The darker one was a project, I refinished the wood, replaced some parts and had the metal reblued. Cost a lot more than it's worth but I had fun!

Chief, they are a lot off fun to shoot and yes they do kick like a mule. Mine is Austrian, purchased in 2005 for $69.00. Also bought a case of surplus ammo that I have been nursing along so I have not tried reloading for it.
Pretty sure I have a few en-bloc clips squirreled away somewhere that you are welcome to it you end up with one. Let me know.

    Thanks.

You guys, are the triggers that bad? Accuracy? Recoil any worse than my Mosin Nagant short rifles, M-44 or 91/59?

Trigger is a bit stiff but breaks clean, on par with most of my surplus military rifles of this vintage with the exception of the K-31. Probably most similar to the Mosins.
I think the recoil may be a bit sharper than my M-44.

I bought one a couple years ago. I only had 5 rounds of loaded ammo with the rifle, and recoil was a bit brisk. I got a bullet mold, and ordered 200 rounds of brass, and 10 of the stripper clips for the rifle. Shooting cast lead gas check bullets in that rifle is not bad at all. Actually a lot of fun, and it's at least as accurate with the cast lead gas checked bullets as the rest of my milsurp rifles are. Lee makes/made a 205 grain mold for the 8 x 56R.
They still make it, and here it is:

Edit to add: Lee also sells a 2-die set of reloading dies.

DON'T GET ONE!!! 'Cause if you get one then I'LL have to get one, too!! I've been toying with the idea ever since I saw Tom's (Sakodude). Ammo shouldn't be an issue, JG and AIM has it.
Found this sight for rare brass.

Y'all are enablers, I need this like I need a hole in my haid ..............pulled the trigger on one. Oh boy, another caliber to shoot and reload fer. It was easy separating the 7.62X54R brass from all the rest because of the rim, but now I'll have to pay careful attention because this is rimmed too.

My plan is to order some privi partizan ammo and use the brass for reloading. Next, or in the meantime, I get some dies and bullets.:tooth:

I've been flirting with getting one of these fer some time now, probably should have when they were cheaper, but better late than never.

Big Al, come on man, join the club (and these would literally make a good club in a pinch :fan: after the ammo ran out"imoit:):guns:
