Maybe someone should introduce her to Article 1 Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution: The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.

I put the "shall be" in bold type; it is an important couple of words. "Shall be" is a legal mandatory command that does not allow for exceptions. It is obvious Gov. Perdue should acquaint herself with the document. I cannot say 'reacquaint' as it is kind of obvious she has not perused the contents of it to any degree, if at all. Kind of sad that elected officials to high office are ignorant of the law and the U.S. Constitution. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer”

:that: I am from NC originally and this sadens me to see something like this. Pitiful just plumb pitiful I tell ya!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats 900 kind of way WRONG!!!!!!
I think that maybe the citizens of NC should " Suspend her Bev. Perdue" until she completes successfully a course in civics including one full year of constitution learning. I am really surprised that the good and gracious folks of NC aren't " UP IN ARMS ABOUT THIS STATEMENT" and I mean literally up in arms NC is a huge pro-gun state.

    This was on Fox news:
    http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/special-report/2011/09/28/nc-governors-shocking-comment-about-congress

This is the last kind of statement I would expect to hear from a Democrat Like Purdue.....NC has always been on of those Southern Democrat states.
A spokesperson/spokeswoman for the Gov. says that Gov. Pudue was using hyperbole . I don't buy that for a minute, not at all.

The most stupid part of this statement isn't the unconstitutionality of the idea, dumb as it is. What she actually said was that Congressional elections should be suspended for two years...

Er, Governor Dear, Congressional elections are ALREADY held every two years! Duh. That's what makes her statement so clueless -- that what she's proposing is in fact already what's already being done all along. She spoke as though elections were held, mmm, weekly and she wanted a "cooling off period" of two years. Sister, you already got it, courtesy of the constitution!

You don't think she means to suspend the 2012 elections until 2014?
    Meh.

I think she was sending up a trial balloon to see if the people would throw a fit.

Fortunately they did and she had to back off to "only kidding".

She wants to suspend the Constitution. I don't believe for a second that she was joking. She gets two strikes: one for the horrible suggestion of suspending the Constitution and a second for lying to the public that it was a joke. She should understand, probably does understand, that tyrants start by "temporarily suspending" protections that are built into the law. Once they are suspended, they can be suspended again. And again. And again. Etc. Our only protection then is the 2nd Amendment. If the 2nd Amendment is suspended also, look out. Tyranny and a dictatorship is coming soon, VERY soon.

Thomas Jefferson said: "The tree of freedom must be watered with the blood of tyrants, about every 30 years or so." Aren't we way over due?

    Apparently Govenor Purdue:

    1. never attended Purdue university

    2. does not have much use for staff, as that gaff should have not made it past the speech writer

    3. perhaps is related to Frank Purdue, the poultry magnate ?
