The former tabloid editor, who has transformed himself into a cable news personality, said that dwindling viewing figures and an anti-gun campaign that alienated a vast swath of his audience had led him to conclude that his show had “run its course”.

I've read that his bosses at CNN decided on the change, not him. CNN President Jeff Zucker (formerly of NBC) is discussing a "new role" for him at the network. Hopefully it won't involve anything more noteworthy than mop buckets and Lysol.....

The way the CNN article was written, it was the network's decision and not his.
