Found the Floridah BS'ers forum lurked there for a year or so then came here to lurk. I don't know how long I lurked here before I joined in 2006. I lurked for 3 more years before I posted anything. Even though I post a lot of smartass comments the learning center is never close between my ears. 95% of the time when I need to find an answer about guns or reloading this is where the answer is usually found. Lots of smart fellers here that know their stuff.
Refusing to conform to the left wing mantra of political correctness by insisting on telling the truth does not make you a loud mouth.
About the same, I started on the Florida Sportsman forum. Liked this place a LOT better. Seems like the FSF members were very territorial, with a few of the "I am the king of this forum" types. So much nicer here!! That has to about 13 years ago when I joined. I had gotten away from guns and shooting after I moved to Florida, and busy at work. This place helped maintain my interest, so now that I'm retired I renewed my resolve to all aspects of shooting guns in general.

Gun control laws make about as much sense as taking ex-lax to cure a cough.
I was also on the FS Forum but didn't get the link from there. I was looking up some gun parts about 2006 - 7 and there was a link to G & A, lurked around for a while than joined, I'm not on any other gun forums, quite satisfied right here.

THE DEFINITION OF GUN CONTROL IS HITTING THE TARGET WITH YOUR FIRST SHOT
I read an article online from, Handguns magazine, and followed a link to the forum. That was 2003 or 04. I lurked for quite some time before I joined. Left for a couple of years, and now I am back to the chagrin of many. I would like to point out I only owned 3 firearms when I joined this forum. This forum largely contributes to my lack of a retirement fund.
Joined the Florida Sportsman Forum about 10 years ago, and was not impressed by the territoriality and exclusiveness of the members there. Found this on the link, posted some questions, got some answers with no condescension, and I've stayed.
Was subscribed to the magazine many years ago (Early '00s) and saw the web address printed in the cover page, so entered to take a peek; checked the "forum" option, accessed and got hooked on the spot due to the vast amount of free 1st.-hand info and nice temper of the forum members.
I awoke on the 11th of the 12 month, 2011.
I do not remember anything before then, although my specialist has promised my archives should kick in any time now.
Found on G&A site, browsed for a long time, did not think I would contribute much if I joined.
Very glad I did, nice bunch of blokes, good fun, learning all the time.
Whatever happened to that kid "Microsoft"? I believe he was thinking about joining the military if I remember right. I still remember his post about surviving Armageddon by living on city rooftops and raiding vending machines for corn chips with his "shottie". He took quite a bit of ribbing from the old heads on that one and ...oh yeah! ...he never used spell check. He seemed like a decent kid even though D Johnson threatened the boot a few times. lol!!
I honestly don't even remember. I do know that I lurked for about a year before joining up (2004~2005). Much like Jerm, I finally read a thread that I just HAD to respond to, joined up and the rest is history.
Couldn't sleep, was on the "net" looking around for nothing in particular. Found the G&A website, lead me to the forum. AS SS3 said was about 12 years back give or take.

I was looking for an answer to something. can't remember what it was now but I posted the question on the forum via my t.v net can't remember what it was called. can't think of his first name now. He past away, his last name if I remember was Rice him and ewok were in a battle for a long time. this is before Dan came on as the marshell.
Although I owned 2 S&W police style .38's a .380 Walther and a 12 gauge Mossberg 500, I was not overly interested in guns per se. When Obama got elected I bought a new S&W M&P 9mm in November 2008 and that started to stimulate my interest. I started looking around the internet for general information on guns and ammo, and found a link to this site. I lurked for a couple of days and couldn't resist the urge to join in the fun. Since then I bought an AR in January of 2009, another S&W 9mm in compact configuration 2 years ago, a bunch of goodies for the AR and a small pile of ammo as well. Bullets, I need more bullets......You guys are a bad influence.

Ran across the forum at work back in the summer of '03. Lurked till late December. I joined the day Dan J announced that Jim Rice had passed on. Dan C, Teach, GeneL, WSutlive, and SanFranGun were about to kill each other over something. I don't recall what.
I was originally interested mostly in the Hunting Forum, but about the time I joined, Teach posted a thread titled "When's the Funeral", a reference to the Hunting Forum doing it annual nose-dive at the end of most hunting seasons. I remember thinking at the time, "Wow....I suspect I could tell these dudes a thing or two about guns". But, I mostly kept my mouth shut, and I'm glad I did. Within a couple days or so I realized I knew practically nothing at all.
Kalrog was the first to reply to my first post, with Calebib being a close second. A day or so later Teach and I were discussing almost-retired ladies in fishnet stockings. I pegged him then and there as a man of good taste.
My first faux-paux was posting something about getting a poodle Christmas morning.....with my truck. One lady member got in a tiff over that one and left in a big huff. Sutlive said she didn't count for much and he couldn't stand poodles anyway, so I didn't feel quite so bad.
And, Bobby....you're right. If you insulted me your first week here, I sure don't remember it. Since you do, I assuming it was a good one!
Been a lot of going's on over the past ten years.

Soooo...............no-one else googled 'Naked men and goats' huh.............
I found this place when I was stood up on a date (either 2007/8) You guys made me feel welcome, which did a lot for my self confidence , having been kicked off every other forum I had ever joined.........except the other one which came up on the above google search.
Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....
This pretty much proves that, as a forum, we're dysfunctional.

Took me some time to decide to join this forum because it did seem dysfunctional; it was at that, but, is worse now and the questions that came along with
time to welcome new guys will scare off anyone that is not certifiably a bit looney.
Purchased my first pistol in October 2000, along with the current G&A magazine. I saw that they had a website and forum. So I joined the forum and bought a subscription. The forum was the "brutal wild west" back then.
I keep coming back because this place feels like that old smelly/f-arty comfy lazy-boy. Even though I am not as knowledgable or skilled in firearms/reloading/hunting as the majority of you, I still enjoy the banter and the camaraderie. I've made some good friends on this forum and that says a lot.
There's no way I can recall the exact search or circumstances that brought me to the old Primedia iteration of the forum, but it was shortly after I arrived at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, TX back in 2003. There were a lot of good threads floating around and having been a regular on other forums, I immediately felt comfortable with the community. The rest is history.
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.
Honestly, I can't remember. But I'm glad I did, you guys have helped me thru some hard times.

Another from the Florida Sportsman forum. Joined up here as soon as it became part of the same family. Better heads prevail on here, still do the FS, but nowhere near what I used to do.

I believe they are both still hosted by the same publisher.

No, I wasn't Googling Gladiator movies.

Found several but this is the only one entertaining enough.
By the way, how do you prepare a Florida sportsman after you've caught it?
Run it through the meat grinder and use it for chum!
