S&W M&P Sport

RogueRatRogueRat Posts: 3 New Member

Howdy. Newbie here. I have an S&W M&P Sport AR and I am trying to remove the A2 sight. I have done this before on many ARs but the S&W sight tapered pins seem extremely tight. I have tried soaking with KRoil and other lubes to no avail. I even tried heating them to help loosen them so I could drive them out.
Nuttin' works. I want to install a 4 rail gas block. Any ideas??
Thanks.

Bigger hammer. Sometimes they are just a pain. Usually one comes out in 2 taps making you think it is a 5 minute job.
Make sure you are using a FIRM surface as a backing. You would be surprised at how the slightest give or bounce could turn your hammer into a pillow. Edge of the bench, or directly over a leg is the best spot on most benches.

Thanks all. I think SirGeorge nailed it with the FIRM bench, so I'm going to give that a try.

Needless to say, also make sure you are wracking on the right side of the taper pin.

Thanks, SirGeorge, I was trying to do the work on my upstairs reloading bench, which after your suggestion, I determined was only slightly firmer than my orthopedic mattress. I then proceeded to my work shop to a SOLID work surface, used my 24 oz. framing hammer, and, guess what? They slid right out. So all is well in Southern Oregon. I've got my 4 rail gas block and laser mounted and the rifle cycles smoothly, and all is right with the world. Except my favorite in the NCAA got beat. Ah, well.

P.S. I almost forgot. If you are removing the A2 sight, the manufacturers don't always seat the tapered pins from the right side. On my M&P Sport they were seated from the left side.??? Another reason I was beating them to death. Check the pin head diameters before you start bashing on them. I have sent a query to S&W.

Welcome, post up a pic of the M&P when you get it set up the way you like.

What he said. I, for one, would be very interested to see what your finished product looks like.
