I surrender! I bought a Glock!
Forever, I have hated Glocks, found fault with their materials, looks, the un-safe action they are designed around, all of it. But I had never actually held one. I didn't think I had to. I never test drove a Smart For 2 and I hate those, why should Glock be any different? OK, so my LGS had a Stoeger American Eagle stainless steel Luger (1993) which was the original focus of my interest. I examined the Luger, it was $1125, I decided it was 2 bills too high. As I handed it back to my salesman, on his own, he produced the Glock (17, 3rd Gen., VG+ condition) which was right next to the Luger on the shelf. I said "NO!" he said "please" so I held it. I didn't turn to stone. Must be a defective Glock. I went over the whole litany of my objections - no safety, ugly, plastic frame, and so forth. He released the slide, and asked me to try the trigger. It wasn't nearly as light as I had believed the Glock trigger to be. He explained it had been modified with a "New York" trigger to provide for an 8+ pound pull.
Uhm, I hate to admit it, but with a harder trigger, this handgun is really no more unsafe than a well-polished, action-jobbed revolver. The store wanted $339 for it, no case, one magazine. I told him my email has been bombarded with CZ clones at under $300 brand new, and this Glock 17 was used, and a discontinued model at that. He asked me to hold on, went to the owner, they had a chit chat, and he came back with $300 OTD with a box of S&B 9mm ammo thrown in. A good deal, so I bit. I haven't shot it yet, it lives for now in my car's center console. I'll post a pic soon - as soon as I figure out how to do it - please don't fine me.
