Shooting Rest for Revolvers - Ideas? Suggestions?

ZeeZee Senior MemberPosts: 20,772 Senior Member
I'm about sick and tired of adapting rifle rests to shoot revolvers.

All the rests I have either have an adjustment stem, forend stop, or support leg sticking out that hinders, precludes, or negates the use of revolvers with them. It's really getting old having to deal with the frustration.

So, I need suggestions. What do you guys use or recommend. and please don't recommend that tinker toy MTM plastic rest. I've read that they suck balls.

What else ya got?

Cut the legs off a pair of blue jeans, sew one end shut with heavy thread or have your local cobbler do it with his leather-sewing machine, and put a drawstring in the other end made of 550 cord. Then fill the bags with cat litter. They make great bench rest bags for handguns. Then give the leftovers to your lady friend for Daisy Dukes!

Does that qualify as a win/win/win situation?

Hey It's cheaper than a pair of blue jeans and it works.

But knowing your penchant for extremes http://www.targetshooting.com/catalog/pistol-rests/model-1500-pistol-rest/

The Midway one seemed light..and a little wobbly.....but the bench was not the best. Maybe I need more time on a proper pistol rest.......I have always used the rest Teach mentioned.but being cheap...I dont buy jeans...I grab a pair thats worn holes in the knees.......cut above and below.....4 bags outta 1 pair......:win:

I honestly have had the best luck using a Protektor rabbit ear rear rest bag turned toward me. I rest the revolver grip on the base of the bag and use the rabbit ears to cradle the frame. It lets me have a very stable base without any contact on the barrel. The catch is that the cylinder gap blast does burn the bag over time. You could probably toss a rag over the whole deal to quell this, but I'm too forgetful to bring one to the range with me.
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.

Mill a 1/4" slot for a piece of key stock brazed into the tube for the Acme thread so the rest won't try to rotate.

I know the guy who make those.
I modified one slightly for the MOA BR match, the year I ran my 6.5-284 MOA Maximum for a 5-shot group in 5" or 5.5" (can't remember right now) at a 1000 yards.
