Early Back Straps!

twatwa Posts: 2,245 Senior Member
Doe management got an early start this evening. Looks like back straps are on the menu tomorrow!
Perfect quartering away shot at 10 yards, she went about 20 yards and expired quick, couldn't have asked for a better hunt tonight!

Wonderful job! Always great to get the meat packed as early as possible in the season.

Excellent. It is that time of year. The bow opener here is Saturday and I'm stoked. My favorite tenderloin or backstrap recipe' is wrapped in bacon, held on with toothpicks, marinated in Teriyaki, then grilled. Same for duck breast.

MAN! What a way to start the year. I love it. On opening day here, I'll be horn hunting, but if a nice doe presents itself, oh well can't eat antlers!!!

Did you take this with a Bow? If so, double that congratulations. Great job.

Given that there's an arrow sticking out of her back, I'd recon he did. :tooth:

Thanks guys much appreciated. Great way to start out the season no doubt. Actually I did not hit spine or even nick any part of the back strap, it was clean took out the right lung, like I said she did not go far! I am with you on the horns Snake, KS is very liberal on doe tags, we can shoot 5 a year but only one buck. So yep, shoot some does for meat and hold out for some good horns.
My early season hunts usually aren't that good, but this past week I have seen a lot of deer, several small to medium size bucks and quite a few does, looks like a promising season.

Nice work! What kinda bow, range, etc. Details man!

Archery season starts today, I haven't shot my bow in 9 months. Yeah, I'm a loser.

I shoot a PSE X-force, last draw weight I had checked was right around 65 lbs.
Mamma walked in with a fork horn yearling (which I have never seen before) they came from behind me up the trail, wind swirling, she knew something wasn't right but kept on coming. They passed within a couple feet of my stand very nervously, but finally passed by my stand and started grazing in the grass field. I waited for a quartering away shot, 10 yards, she ran about 20 yards and dropped and expired within sight of my stand within less than a minute from being hit. I wish they were all that easy.
