One of the reasons Obama's halo is starting to slide off is the fact that he makes appointments based on ideology and political acumen, instead of qualification for the job. He has an advantage that no other president has ever had - he doesn't give a damn if the country even survives, much less prospers.

The reason we don't have a Surgeon General is because Obama nominated someone to the position knowing he had a snowballs chance in hell of being confirmed. Alpha likes to blame the Conservatives every chance he gets and totally ignores the root cause for the failure of Obama's nominees to be confirmed. I guess Alpha and the progressives would also have a hissy fit if Obama nominated Bill Ayers to replace Holder as Attorney General.

The real reason Obama's choices for these offices fail to pass muster is because they are unfit to hold the office. But Alpha, like the progressives believes that Obama should be able to nominate and have confirmed any hack that the wants as long as they pass the progressive muster. And it gives them something to piss and moan about while America burns and Obama plays another round of golf.

I'm sorry the republicans have turned obstruction into an art form under Obama. From your perspective that's probably a good thing, but it's also no way to run a government long term and I have no doubt you'll howl and complain when democrats further refine the tactics next time a guy with an R in front of his name is in office (once a tactic has proven to be effective, regardless of how underhanded, it is always adopted by the opposition). Some veto power over nominees is necessary, but it shouldn't be the default stance and the minority party shouldn't be able to dictate to the majority party that their nominees must pass all of their "litmus tests". Saying essentially "if he'd only nominate conservatives he wouldn't have a problem" isn't really a viable solution. Then again maybe with actual evidence and facts you can show how Obama's SG nominee is unqualified, incompetent, and/or radical in some way that makes him unfit for office. Then again doing that would take thought and effort. Saying it's all Obama's fault requires exactly zero.

The part that amazes me is that the mis-handling of the Ebola outbreak is being blamed on not having a surgeon general, as if that would have changed a thing. Appointing a lawyer as Ebola Czar, ( yeah that bit of stupidity belongs to the Republicans in Congress), makes PERFECT sense! I am sure Ebola strategies was covered at Harvard Law.

Just waiting for the reports that Ebola is caused by Global Warming.

It's already being done- - - - -according to the stories I've heard, "Global warming is causing an interruption in fruit bats' normal food supply which causes them to forage in the daytime- - - -people are catching the bats and eating them, and bats carry ebola". Therefore, global warning is causing the ebola epidemic! How's that for some lefthanded logic?

Nature does tend to find a way to balance itself. If one species gets a little too big for its britches nature does have a tendency to self correct. We're long overdue for such a correction. Then again we're also getting a bit ahead of ourselves. Various infectious disease like Aids, TB, and Milaria kill between 6-7 million people a year in Africa. So far Ebola has killed just over 4,500.

"All international flights with origins from the African continent are hereby banned, in all circumstances, from entering US airspace and landing on US soil indefinitely."

There. Problem solved. But that's racist.........

Doesn't solve the problem. A passenger can go from Africa to Berlin or Frankfurt or Dubai or Kuwait city and then fly to the states on a separate/different flight

And guess what, PAYBACK time is looming and the Dems are gonna start screaming like raped apes when Reps do the same things they have been doing in Congress.

Which is the problem. I wish some party would forget PAYBACK and pay attention to what's best for America. Reagan didn't worry about payback, which is why he was so successful as a president. Political grudges are never helpful to good government.
