I used to pack a sleeping bag, plenty of snacks and a favorite book into my stand when I took the boys hunting...makes a long day more comfortable for them. I've often had to shake them awake when deer showed up... I miss those times...a lot...

Days like that are supposed to be just good ol' memories for us older guys, but I'm finding out you will do it as long as you're able, because when one generation goes on to bigger and better things, look out because here comes another bus load,

And another thing, When it's me going hunting by myself, I want to kill something. I've had enough of those good days out in nature where I don't care if I kill anything or not, I get off being at one with nature. Now when I go hunting I want to kill something. If not I wouldn't go to all the trouble I do, if all I want is to be at one with nature. I've been there-done that.

However, when it comes to breaking in new hunters, that's a satisfaction all by itself. When I take them out I have found that I don't have the same motivators as with by myself. I really get off teaching them the things my dad and other adults taught me when I was young. And if they don't kill anything, even though I love to see their faces when they do, I feel I'm teaching them a lot more than just how to kill animals.

That's a great start, buffy. You actually kick-started my desire to buy some land so that my little girl can have a decent place to hunt withh me. I want to take her out, but to do so on the public land on my part of the state is to all but assure her an experience in frustration and empty-handedness.

Keep doing what you're doing. These little ones are our future.
