Worls Series. Your pick?

Big ChiefBig Chief Posts: 32,995 Senior Member
That should be World not Worls. I fat-fingered the keyboard.

Am I forgiven Sam, the S and D are mighty close to each other :tooth:

I think it is time for the Royals to win.

Go Giants since they are the only California team to finish the year in style! Division champions vs. League Champions......I'll take League Champions every time! Dodgers Suck!

Well, of course I'm rooting for the Royals, as KC is my home town.

Factually, I'd say they're about 55% on track for the win. That is, a tad better than a coin flip. SanFran is a good team, after all.

What's good about the Giants is that they aren't a snob team like the Yonkeez or similar. They've got class and play tough.

A good series, I'll pick Royals in 7.

Sorry I got it wrong. Jeez, that North/South thing such a big deal there? Is there an imaginary Mason-Dixon line across the strait?

Well, considering that the players today were just babies during the strike, it's not too good to punish them for it.

Actually, we've got the makings of a tightly-fought, tough series with "old time" hit and run play by both teams. The games thus far have been pretty good even though the Royals got blown out in game 1. But game 2 was back and forth, great defensive work, good pitching vs good hitting, excellent tactics on both sides.

Friday's game is indicative of the hard fought series, as we had fine pitching and terrific defensive work from both teams.

Tip goes to the Royals, now 2-1 in the series, and according to stats, teams at this point won the series about 2/3 of the time. So we shall see.

I'm very pleased with the excellent Fox Sports coverage. Joe Buck is probably the best baseball commentator working these days, and the whole team are sharp, giving us both insight into the tactics and strategy being used on almost a pitch-by-pitch basis, but lots of fun background info, too.

Camera work is amazing, best I've ever seen for any baseball game.

With luck, the Royals will give me a nice post-surgical present Tuesday or Wednesday night. But of course the Giants are a tough team, so we'll just have to wait.

    Anyone else enjoying the games?

Well, the Giants rallied big time last night and equalled the game count to 2-2. More power to them -- they're a terrific team and aren't the sort of players who would roll over and "accept their fate" in the least.

A blowout, I didn't expect. But I did expect the Giants to swing back and win, either Saturday or Sunday.

My prediction is that the Royals will turn the tide once more and win today (Sunday) and head to KC with a 3-2 record. But there's nothing to prevent the Giants from taking today's game, of course.

Two excellent teams, both with a "never give up" attitude. Adding to this is that, by now, each team's management and coaching has been able to scout the opponent's strengths and weaknesses and work to take advantage of specifics. Because not only are the players first rate, their coaching is tops, too.

I read that TV ratings are down for this series. Duh, of course they are, since no Chicago or NuuYawk team is playing. That doesn't matter. This is gonna be one of the best played series in recent years. both teams hard fighters and scrappy and ready to get it on.

Not lookin' good for the Royals tonight (Sunday). The Giants' pitcher has been unhittable and the team has also played fine defense.

Only giving up 2 runs shouldn't be a bad thing, but in this World Series? A blowout.

Oh, well, on to KC on Tuesday.

KC lost, but I thought they had a chance for a few minutes in the 9th. 3 to 2 SF.

I've been ignoring professional sports for years, but due to lack of programming have watched a couple games. I'm for the Royals, just because they got there by playing good baseball without a lot of crybaby superstars. The Giants are pretty solid, too, and they do have an ace starter that looks unbeatable and are unbelievable two-strike hitters. I doubt the Royals can get it done, but I'm still pulling for them.

Too late, SF won the World Series last night. I wuz hoping KC would have won, a different team for a change.

Well, a close series and my Royals lost, but honorably so. My main 3 thoughts on the series...

1- Giants are a terrific team, and outplayed the Royals just enough to win, which is how it's done. They're a bunch of tough players and not snobby so I'm not greatly disappointed. More power to 'em. They played tough, fair, and won. What else can ya say?

2- Royals at least made it to the world series and they should be right back in the mix next year. Those disappointed need to look at it this way: How many teams in all of MLB even make it to the big show? Two. If your team is among those, keen.

3- I took a Tylenol w. Codeine #3 (post-surgical prescription for residual pain), washed it down with an ensure, and went to bed, slept fine. Remember, when YOU have a bad day, your fave team doesn't get all sad and soggy.

4- That damn Giants pitcher Bumgarner is amazing! He came into the game and clamped down on the Royals totally. Maybe by next year the commentators will learn that his name isn't "Baumgartener"?

Overall, a great series, lotsa fun, good games, great play on both sides, terrific offense, defense, individual plays by superb and tough competitors. See ya next year!

That last batter from KC was sure swinging at high pitches, otherwise be called Balls by the umpire. Thunk he felt pressured, I mean the WS at stake, he is the last batter in the game and they have 2 outs already?

I flipped back and forth to the game. Yep, SF pitcher is a good one fer sure.

Well, bis, my sentiments much the same as yours. The Giants aren't crybabies nor snobby players like Yankees or whatever. They play fair, strong, and smart, and win tough games. Same as the Royals.

Regarding ignoring pro sports, some folks just aren't spectator sports fans. Each to his own.

Myself, I pick and choose sports just like I do with other TV, movies, books, etc. If it pleases me to partake, fine. If it's a chore to watch, "click". In other words, I don't feel obligated to follow or be a fan of a particular team "just because" -- the team has to earn my support, just like a TV show or book or movie does, by quality.

Ruling out ALL pro sports (unless you're simply not a sports fan, which is fine), is silly. That's like refusing to read any more books because 20 years ago you read a bad book. Duh.

(and by "you" I mean the "group you" not you personally, bis)

Duh. Looks like I lost track of the 'off' day and missed the last game. Oh, well, I was trying to be interested enough to keep up, but I didn't get it done, this year.

Maybe I'll try again some day. :tissue:

No biggie. Some folks just aren't sports fans and find MLB and NFL boring.

Baseball fans however did see a superbly pitched game by Bumgarner, who's normally a starter (he'd started 2 of the earlier games) but he came in as a long reliever and shut down the Royals. His high fastball is the best people have seen in decades, reminding them of Bob Feller. When you're got a terrific pitcher who's "on his game" it's Katie bar the door for the other team.

I was a huge sports fan for about 5 decades. Now I watch my grandsons play three sports, in person, and selected college games and occasional pro games with people who still like them. But I will never be very loyal to another pro team nor probably to an individual player. It's nothing to do with not enjoying sports. I played as a kid and loved it. I'm just hard-headed about the way the whole professional sports scene plays out, decades after the advent of free agency. It took several years for it to really bite, and now it is out of hand, in my opinion. I know it's capitalism and all that, but I just don't care for all the hype and drama, nor for the examples the players set for youths.
