Well, the Poles "confidently" charged German tanks with small arms on horseback in 1939, and look how far it got them. The gun is enough gun or it isn't. "Belief" doesn't have jack to do with it.
True. The gun/cartridge must be capable. But........with confidence.......Ernie and a few others are able to take a capable cartridge and push it further to take game than the vast majority are confident/able to do so.
Not that they couldn't, with practice. But, because of practice and therefore confidence, some are able to push the limits of a cartridge. Not just wing a shot.......actually KNOW they can make it happen.
So, yes. Confidence plays a major roll. At least, in my opinion and experience.
