Did Something Yersterday I've Never Done Before

woodsrunnerwoodsrunner Posts: 2,725 Senior Member
Was squirrel hunting with 3 of my buddies on a large tract of riverbottom hardwoods that I've managed for 20 or so years, and I killed TWO SQUIRRELS WITH ONE SHOT! Shooting my flintlock fowling piece with the 51 inch barrel and #6 shot. A squirrel was on the ground maybe 40-42 yards away and started up a big White Oak tree. I followed it looking down the barrel waiting for just the right moment, when out of the blue ANOTHER squirrel I hadn't seen came around the trunk and the two seemed to pause nose to nose kissing......BOOM! Two squirrels hit the ground deadern' hell!

Never done it on squirrels, but I did drop two quail on a covey rise once, with a single shot 16 gauge.

Very cool. A 51" barrel - goodness. I can't imagine handling that in the woods!
