Story says that 3 robbers entered a home. Homeowner fired 5 shots, hit 2 of the invaders, all were caught.

Good shootin!

Rather than "All were caught", I'd rather read "All were dead".

Well, ya gotta go with what really happened. Imagine however if you will, the wonderful shock of finding yourself on the wrong end of your intended violence. It ain't not fair! Busting into a house to wreak havoc and getting your butt shot, and also realizing that when you heal up, you're headed to prison. Haw.

I honestly don't understand the stupidity of thugs who continue to bust into homes in Texas and other well-armed states. The stats are definitely leaning more and more toward the homeowner, a good thing.

WE need to change the law. As the "felony murder rule" causes all suspects in a crime to be charged with murder if anybody dies during the commission of the crime, if a victim is compelled to shoot his assailant in defense of his property, himself or others, all surviving suspects in the crime should be charged with attempted murder, or assault with a deadly weapon.

If nothing else, the law should create a new category of crime, called something like "inciting self-defense," in three degrees, for any action that causes a victim to react with brandishing or display, non-lethal force, or lethal force. "Inciting self-defense" would be an additional charge with whatever other misdemeanor or felony was committed, such as simple assault, burglary or robbery. Serious sentencing should accompany a conviction.

Charging surviving felonious thugs with the homicide of their recently departed compatriots? I'm okay with that. Making new laws in order to do so? Seems like a bad idea...too much chance to foul things up, IMO. Mebbe it could work, but I say run with the one you brung...

    You're right.

Here in the Detroit area late last year, home invaders were getting shot daily. New police Chief Craig commended the citizens for protecting themselves and their property, and encouraged more of the same. He also encouraged citizens to get their carry license. Needless to say, even low-life, pea-brained home invaders got the message, and home invasions decreased dramatically. Unfortunately, there is still a high crime rate, but the criminals were forced to change tactics.

The only thing I disagree with in your post, is about supporting criminals with 3 hots and a cot everyday for the rest of their lives.......That costs way more than a well-placed shot.

Sounds good at first, but likely a violation of the 8th Amendment in the Bill of Rights (Cruel & Unusual).
