Anyone try Power Pro 300-MP Powder

I just read an article by Lane Pearce called "Know Your Powders". He talks about some powders being identical (Like 296/H110) and some which are not and mistakenly said to be the same.

What caught my interest was like he said, identical charges and components of of 296 and 300-MP gave different velocities and psi.

With the .357 mag 1,593 fps and 30,900 psi using 296

And 1523 fps and 24,900 psi using the same charge of 300-MP

In the .44 mag was 1614 fps at 42,400 psi with 296

And 1552 fps at 34,300 psi using 300-MP

So you lose 60-70 fps but at considerably less psi and that is a good thing. Not seeing the load data yet, I can see where less pressure would allow you to possibly keep using a similar load with less wear and tear on you and your gun and/or just maybe allow you to use more powder to meet or even exceed the faster loads with 296 powder.

So I think this is a good thing for reloaders looking for a magnum pistol powder to use in their .357s and .44s (others?) and see what results they get.

Naturally, I'd check and recheck load data before proceeding with any powder, especially one you are not familiar with. I plan on trying some fer sure.

Who makes it? It might work out well for my SJS project at that burn rate.

    Slower burn rate than 296/H110.

That may work great. I needed something with a bit slower burn rate, but not that much slower. I got pressure testing equipment so I will have to check it out whenever my barrels come in.

Looking @ Aliiant's data, it appears to have a burn rate quite similar to Li'l Gun

    edited to add:
Looking at this burn chart, Li'l Gun is faster @ #115, H110/296 are #118/119 and 300-MP is #122 and for comparison AA1680 is #125

edited again to add the link to the burn rate chart it came from
