If you like Simon and Garfunkel, step inside

Recently the metal band Disturbed released a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence." All I can say is they did OUTSTANDING! The original is one of my favorite songs, and the cover gives it a completely new sound but does it justice.

It's also a great shift in style for Disturbed.

Not bad. I think I prefer the original. I do really like Disturbed's cover of "Land of Confusion" by Genesis

I'm old school too and like the original. Good song though and I think it compliments S&Gs talent to be copied.

Instrumentation is great - the voice is "meh", but the timing is WAY off. Doesn't do it for me.

I've got a tin ear. Grandpa Jones could have sung it and I wouldn't be able to tell much difference, but I do like the original.

I liked it! If your going to cover a song do it with your own flare. They sure did.

Sound of Silence was just one of many fantastic hits they did. My favorites were Sound of Silence, Homeward Bound, i am a Rock, Cecilia, Mrs. Robinson, The Boxer, Scarborugh Fair, and Bridge Over Troubled Water was probably my all time favorite. One other group I loved almost as much as S&G was the old Bee Gees.

They made some good music, in spite of being a couple of unwashed, dope smokin, tree huggin hippies...

    Good music?

I expect this kinda silliness from CPJ. He doesn't like sweet tea.

Edit: thought you were talking about the Bee Gees. I like Simon and Garfunkel. Both guys seem to have tremendous egos, but they did some good music.

    Meh. Not a S&G fan.
You like the Bee Gees but not Simon and Garfunkel?

And I can't remember any BeeGees songs save for Stayin Alive, off the top of my head.

A castrato voice for the BGs. You have to love Disco to love the BGs. As I said, I have a tin ear.

What else is new? Most of the greats of that era were dope smokin' slime balls.

The Joke? More than a Woman? Tragedy? Love Me? Rest your love on me? How deep is your love? Don't throw it all away? Stayin Alive? If I can't have you? You should be Dancin'? Fanny? and more...

Man if y'all don't like that I have to say you don't like music, at least what I call music.

I liked 'Sound of Silence,' in about the 7th grade (about 1965), but other than that I considered Simon and Garfunkel or the BeeGees as 'filler' songs on the Top 40 AM radio station. Better than the 'bubble gum' groups, but much worse than The Birds, Beatles, Paul Revere and the Raiders, etc. By about 1966, there were some really great rock bands out there, and harmonizing duets were not on my list.

Might make the song more enjoyable for those who didn't liked the original version due to its style or the musicians. Nice but not for me.
