Arrived in Malta yesterday.

Lots of cool thing to see and do but only have 3 full day and then its off 2 the next country/city.

Hope all is good in your own little corner…

That first pic reminds me of the documentary I saw about Malta during WWII. The doco showed the Tanker Ohio entering Valletta Grand Harbour with its decks awash after having been bombed/torpedoed while trying to run the gauntlet and bring much needed fuel to the island.

From memory the island received a George Cross medal ( Its the civilian equivalent of the Victoria Cross) for the heroism the population showed in the face of insurmountable odds.

When I was a kid I read a lot of books about WWII and Malta figured prominently in their pages.

I hope to visit there someday.

    Well,

Ive seen some men wearing those dresses. They look cooler to wear, but i will rough it for now.

Currently in Pompei, italy. Will be here for 1 more day to see museum in Naples and Herculaneum. Pompei is way cool and huge. Even with only about 60% uncovered, it takes a good day to see most of it. It leaves me someting more to go back to see.

Sorry, no pics yet. I will have to xfer them from my camera tomorrow while i do my laundry.

We went on a cruise last summer, and Malta looks like a lot of places we were at in Greece and Turkey. Went to Pompeii, it was awesome, always wanted to see it. The place we were really impressed by was Ephesus, Turkey. Only 10% of the city has been uncovered, but that 10% is 10 times LARGER than Pompeii!! The only difference was that Pompeii was not known to exist until it was discovered, they always knew Ephesus was there 'cause it had been destroyed by a series of earthquakes and other natural events. It has slowly been uncovered over the last 100 years. That's a very interesting part of the world, to bad there's so much political turmoil in the area.
Enjoy the rest of your awesome trip!!

I never heard of it either until we went there!! It's amazing how in the last two thousand years or so nothing has really changed. Even back then they had flush toilets, fast food venders, and shopping malls, not to mention ,(although they do) brothels!! We just added electricity!!

I remember Malta from a few visits in the 1970s made possible by the USN. :tooth: Malta and Sicily were nice places, and I remember the people being more friendly than the mainland, especially if you avoided the tourist places. Good food, good scenery, and lots of smiling people. A small language translation book, a map, and my camera bag, and I was good to go! :roll2:

I've got a bunch of 35mm slides I took at Pompeii back then, too. I suspect that they've excavated a lot more of it since I was there. It was an all day sightseeing walk back then. Same for Herculaneum.

Enjoy your trip, and post up some pictures when you can!

    Hear ya there

During my tiur of Pompei, i was thinking the same.

The times change but not how we go about our daily lives..... sleep, eat, work and sex.

When future generation dig up our places they will probably see the same.

Im in Prague now. Stopped by the CZ store and got a shirt and book i saw last year but didnt buy. Luckly, its not too far from my next stop Berlin.

So far everyone i et has been friendly. I foud that as long as you TRY to speak some local lingo, they appreciate it mor than you just talking to them like an american and in english. Even when i butcher the words the seem to get a big kick out if it.

Well im sitting down to have my 2nd mocha of my whole trip.....yeah, i know im traveling and the worse is that not alot of places make mochas
