Disney and kid's diets

breamfisherbreamfisher Posts: 14,060 Senior Member
My son loves Disney Channel. Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Miles from Tomorrowland, Octonauts, and other shows. Something I've noticed about those shows, and that has worried me, is that in those shows the good guys eat vegetables, the bad guys eat meat. I've been hoping that my son wouldn't take this sort of thing to heart.

My fears are at ease. Every morning I have 2 slices of bacon with breakfast. I just got done cooking my second pair of slices. Because my 2 1/2 year-old ate the original 2 slices I had made for my breakfast. All of it.

He did ask for the first bit. Then just took the rest....

Kid has good taste. Seems everybody has an agenda to push.

Disney has been a tad preachy for decades. In their defense, preachiness is pretty prevalent across society in general. Keep being a good dad and it will never matter what Disney says.

He already retrieves the Nerf darts I shoot at stuff and tries to reload the gun for me so I can keep shooting. And he likes to "fight" with his pirate sword (that's not a veiled reference: he has a pirate sword.)

Sounds like it's time to order up some vintage Warner Bros. cartoons and give the boy a classical education.

We watch some of those. Only problem is some of the stuff we used to see growing up has been edited out.

What in the world can they edit out of a cartoon?

"Violence." Especially if it had a suicidal element. And some things with a racial overtone.

This is verboten: Bugs tries to commit suicide but "misses" and hits Yosemite Sam.

That's right, many modern kids today are unable to tell the difference between a cartoon and reality.

Back to your OP your boy is 2 1/2 already?

That's right, many modern kids today are unable to tell the difference between a cartoon and reality. Evidently. That's why folks want to ban cartoon violence. Folks complain about the modern stuff, but I've pointed out that the old stuff not only was violent but subversive. Bugs Bunny dressed in drag and kissed men dead on the lips! And he did it multiple times. Fruitcake.

Back to your OP your boy is 2 1/2 already?Actually he's over 2 1/2. 2 2/3 plus a little more to be exact, but who measures age in thirds and quarters?

The unedited ones are available as collections on Amazon. I have an eight disc set of the WB cartoons with Bugs, Daffy, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, and the gang. Well worth the price!

The one we have is an 8 volume set. Something like 24 or 32 disks. On a couple of them part of the beginning of the disk is Whoopi Goldberg saying how they did not edit the cartoons and apologizing for racial bla bla bla.

At least we had the entire set. I think my kids have lost several.

No WWII-related cartoons either, where Nazis are REALLY shown as the horror cartoon characters they were, or Japanese soldiers were usually depicted almost as vermin, with their big glasses and bucking teeth.

Have seen the same "vegetables" (And fruit) pattern in Lazy Town episodes the girls watch in awe, but usually comparing them with candy in more than a healthier diet rather than a vegetarian agenda; being raised to feast in animal protein (They LOVE fish) so the media can pump all the pinko lunacy they want in their heads......still going hunting & fishing with dad in the future!

Swedish Chef might not be popular, either. He used firearms.

The Swedish chef didn't use a firearm, but the turtle sure did! :roll2:

The sets I have are direct from WB and an anniversary issue. No preachy stuff on any of them; just non stop cartoons unedited. Don't remember how many discs there are, but it's a three box set.
