Successful Evening...

Shot this doe tonight, thankfully I had a lighted nock that did not pass through all the way which made for a nice recovery, I knew when I released the shot was way to far back unfortunately. Took the shot about 7:00 tonight, waited until about 7:30 and got out of the stand, I saw the general direction she headed and decided to just head that way. Got about 100 yards and up she jumped and took off down a draw. CRAP....decided to wait about a 1/2 hr. more and head down the draw. By now it is DARK, I get about 50 yards down the draw, and like a X-mas tree I see the arrow bounding down the draw again. NOT GOOD.....but I also see her stop about another 50 yards and stop, I waited and watched for about 15 minutes and she did not move. I decided to back out, go into town, get some chow and come back and recover her. I get back out at 8:45 and go to the spot where she had layed down, nothing. Feeling pretty bad now, I walk another 10 steps and about 200 yards across the draw and through the brush I see what looked like the 4th of July....this Nock is BRIGHT. I walk right to her in the pitch black, I would have never recovered her otherwise. Sometimes you just get lucky, tonight was one of those nights, if the arrow would have passed through or broke off in the brush, I wouldn't have been so lucky.

    Good job on the recovery.

It sucks to hear about the shot, but stuff happens. I am glad you got to recover her. Nice followup!

    Well done that man.

I bet your feelings during the 'chase' were at the extremes of 'up' and 'down'..........Up when you spotted it followed by a big 'down' when it ran again. Its a real roller coaster ride when that happens. Going for chow was a good move.

Just finished eating a couple of pan seared leg steaks from the last doe I shot 2 weeks ago. Pan fried with a little butter and a teaspoon of crushed ginger. Best meal I have had since the last venison 'cookup'.

( I cant shoot any more deer until I 'eat' some space in my freezer cos I have taken 5 deer since mid August...........Got about 20kilo's of trimmings to turn into sausages and salamis when I can find a good butcher locally)
Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....

Nice job once again! You made the right call when you saw her jump up and were rewarded accordingly.

Thank you Six Gun...I should have gave her more time the first time she got up. They are tough animals!!

I'm most impressed that you recovered from your 'mistake' of missing the sweet spot. It happens to every hunter, eventually, and your due diligence in recovering the deer, so that it was not wasted, speaks volumes for your hunting ethics.

What a great story! or a great read.

It's called perseverance. You persevered and it paid off in spades. Congrats on a fine hunt. You have great skill my friend. You are a credit to hunters. I would be proud to hunt with you any day.
