Scrapped: Maryland ends bullet ID program after 15 years, $5M and zero cases solved

"An ambitious plan by Maryland to catalog the “fingerprint” of every gun sold in the state -- making dealers fire a shot and send in the spent casing -- is being scrapped, literally.
State authorities have conceded that the bullet ID program, enacted in 2000, cost $5 million, was plagued by technical problems and did not solve a single crime. Now, the 300,000 shell casings, one from every handgun sold in the state since the law took effect, will now be sold for scrap metal."

It's only true if it's on this forum where opinions are facts and facts are opinions

Secondly: I sincerely doubt it only cost $5 million. Isn't this the reason why ALL handguns in the states had the fired case included?

And some sandpaper, steel wool, and polishing compound will solve that. It ain't rocket surgery! :rotflmao:

That said, NEVER allow registering; it's step one for eventual ban of private ownership of firearms, as we're currently experimenting here.
Bu, bu, but that will be ILLEGAL! Anyone caught with a gun so modified will be arrested!! :conehead:
Only if that is the only charge that can be pinned on the perpetrator, i.e. an otherwise law-abiding citizen. A murderer or a thief will be charged for so many different things that they won't even notice, then will probably be released.
I still say those numbers are heavily massaged. When is the last time you heard of ANY government entity able to run a program for fifteen years for (relatively speaking) so little money...ESPECIALLY if that program is going to single-handedly end violent crime? Sorry Maryland, you may have finally gotten it right after fifteen years, but I'm throwing the BS flag.
