Lowering the Bar in Zero Tolerance: The 6-year-old son of Martha Miele was given an automatic three-day out-of-school suspension at Our Lady of Lourdes in Cincinnati in October after, emulating actions of his favorite Power Rangers characters, he pretended to shoot a bow and arrow at another student. Principal Joe Crachiolo was adamant, insisting that he has "no tolerance for any real, pretend or imitated violence." An exasperated Martha Miele confessed she was at a loss about how a 6-year-old boy is supposed to block out the concept of a super-hero fighter (and instead imagine, say, a super-hero counselor?). News of the Weird 11/22/2015

A few months back my 6 year old Grandson was playing in the city park across the street. He had found 2 "L" shaped sticks and like most kids his age was pretending they were pistols. A 5 year old girl wanted to play with him so he gave her one of the sticks. Her young Mother was close by so I gave her a look for approval. She said "It's OK. We are pro gun". There may be hope!

A couple of weeks prior my GS was playing in the city park with his bright orange squirt pistol having "gunfights" with other kids with squirt guns. It was hot summer weather and they were having a lot of fun. The city park is co-joined with the elementary school playground and he could not understand why I forbid him to continue playing with his squirt gun on public school property. I just didn't want the SWAT team showing up.

I don't blame you - I'm constantly amazed, but no longer surprised, at the sheer IDIOCY coming out of schools. I first noticed it back when I was in High School - that was a long time ago and it has NOT gotten any better since! Then I had to raise holy Hell a couple of times with schools my daughter was going to, blah, blah, blah! :blah:

When I was a Junior in High School (1968) many students went hunting or target shooting before and after school. Guns and ammo were kept in their vehicles parked in the school parking lot. One day a firearm was stolen. The Principle's solution was that student's firearms brought to school had to be brought to the office, checked to make sure they were un-loaded and stored in the student's wall locker. Ammunition had to be left in the student's vehicle. It solved the theft problem. I really miss the days of common sense!

When I was coaching the Air Force Jr. ROTC drill team at the high school where I taught auto mechanics, some of the them wanted to earn a few extra drill meet points by participating in the air rifle target competitions at drill meets sponsored by Marine and Army drill teams. I volunteered to set up a practice range in my shop after school hours and coach the shooters, if the drill team booster club would buy the air rifles and a gun safe to store them.

Just before we were about to go ahead with the plan (with school administration approval, BTW), the parents of a kid not even enrolled in ROTC raised such a stink that the whole thing had to be scrapped. Now- - - -for "the rest of the story" like Paul Harvey used to say- - - - -the parents who got the air rifle target team cancelled got several windows of their house and two cars damaged by a BB gun a few weeks later!

This just adds support to the argument as to why they should not have had the shooting team.

It was like this in the late 70's and even the early 80's in many places. I remember driving past the Cross City high school on my way hunting back in ~'83-'86 and seeing rifles and shotguns hanging in the back windows of dang near every pickup in the parking lot, so they could hustle out hunting right after school let out.

Times have changed, and not for the better. When I was in Jr. and Sr. high ( 48 thru 55) many schools had target ranges in the basement, kids were allowed to leave school to go hunting with there parents, as late as 1970 when we lived in Colorado kids took a week off to go deer and elk hunting.

Was gonna say, my dad had a 65 Chevy half ton long wheel base pickup with a gun rack in the rear window. When I went to school on days he let me take it I had my 30-30 and my 12 gauge long tom in that gun rack in plain view. If they would have popped the trunk on half the cars in the parking lot they would have found similar armament. But nobody shot the school up or cause a hostage situation. THE VERY LIBERALS that want your guns caused this madness with their Godless PC policies.
