    You're not helping.

Y'all leave him alone now. This is one of those rare times we, he and I, agree on something. Who knows? Maybe we're on a roll!

Seriously, the more I think of his idea, the better I like it. I'm not into Long Range scoped pistols or even short ranged Single shot ones. But after seeing the pic of this one in hand it really tweaked my interest. And I'm no HAND GUN aficionado, but every once in a while I see one I like. And to be able to utilize a big round like the 500 makes it more interesting to me. Like he said out to 100-150 it would be the cat's meow. It would be a BOSS of a HOG gun.

Ok, the .358 Winchester is looking pretty good.
Called Hornady today and their 200gr FTX & 200gr Round Nose are good down to 1,600 fps while the 180gr XTP is good down to 900 fps, I believe.

    FA86898B-AC58-4BA7-91EA-FA678408B81B_zpsinwioskp.jpg

Made up some dummy rounds with all three. The FTX I already load in my .358 Win rifle. So, I set the BTO of the other two bullets (RN & XTP) to the same length and now all three will chamber perfectly in my .358 Rifle with the same distance to lands.

If I go .358 Winhester on this pistol, I'll send these dummy rounds in so they can match the chamber.

    The round nose look awesome!

I don't buy the scope-killer cop out. SSK builds 500's, the X-Frame has scope mounts, lots of people have SERIOUS boomers on single shots...with scopes. The SSK T'SOB mount should be just fine, its made for powerful single shot handguns.

Oh, they'll build it. And I can have them do a 6 hole base. He just basically said............if it eats my scopes........don't come crying to him.

Write to a couple of scope manufacturers and tell them what you are planning............see if they will sponsor a scope as a way of showing their products will not break on what you are building........Might work...

All this talk of chambering. I had to break out the MOA maximum in .308 Winchester. Just to make sure I didn't need another SP in .308 Win.

    MOA%20Zero%2012-4-15%201_zpsrqtjdatx.jpg

I think I got that chambering covered.

Oddly enough, it did NOT like this lot of 150gr Nosler. But, it's good on A-Max. Always has been.

If we see you with a Weatherby rifle chambered in .308, we will know the world has ended.

I'm wondering what the consensus opinion on here would be if someone took a Weatherby Mark V in some caliber copacetic with this forum's consensus opinion, take the barreled action and have it bead blasted and blued to a classic satin finish, put it in a classic hand rubbed oil finished stock without any white lined spacer crap and bed it where it will shoot sub MOA.

Would the Weatherby name etched into the receiver still hold a prejudice that would dispel the looks of a beautiful, accurate and functional rifle?

    Yes.

Pretty much. Roy built his rifles the way he did to catch the eye of self important fruits and nuts in CA. It worked and the Mk V rifles look like they belong to a New Orleans pimp.

I moved this to another thread because it doesn't really belong here. Train wreck over, thread back on track.
