Ruger Speed Six

Finally, got the dealer down to where I could afford it. It's in 98% condition, blue 4". Photos will follow if I can get my computer to work. I guess I will use it for a truck gun.

The Ruger Speed Six is a nice piece but it cries for new springs. I've had a number of Security Sixs and quickly replaced the springs with Wolfe springs. IIRC the only difference between the Speed Six and Security Six is the Speed six has fixed sights so it was easier to draw from a holster.

may I be the first to say :yousuck:

Those are nice pistols! God grab.

Sweet!! I'm sure you're aware of the grip design change with prefix #150, but if not, there are different grip profiles for those early ones.

This one is a 157 prefix. I might have paid too much for it, $325. I prefer fixed sights on a SD pistol.

I don't think you paid too much for it, it is a fine revolver........

    No you didn't overpay.

It's a good price, maybe even real good.

No modern arm can surpass it in practicality.

They also rounded the corners of the grip frame on the Speed models.

Great grab Gene, I should be so lucky to overpay like that!

Hey, *my* Six is a 157! We're related!

Yeah, I've been wanting it since it came in the shop. He finally came down from the asking price, and I've been a good customer to the LGS owner.

It's relatively small-frame gun, about K-frame sized, but more robust. I think. I hope the leather I have for a K-frame will fit it, and if not I have a Hunter holster that fits well.

I think it's going to be my truck gun, since I don't have one now. Well, not a revolver.

I must be a cousin too, except a 9mm one.

The 9mm ones are worth more money; considerably more from ads on Gunbroker.

Nice find and great price :guns::guns:

Very strong revolvers, no side plate/screws.

    Do tell more.

I have a 150 prefix Security-Six (with fixed sights - this was pre Speed-Six as I understand it) - what will Wolff springs gain me? Better DA trigger pull (I'd hope!)?

Mine has a decent trigger pull for a coil spring trigger. I won't put any more into the revolver. I'm quite sure a trigger spring kit from Wolf would improve it, but since I'm no longer shooting in competition, my main worry is if the hammer will detonate the cartridge. I'm pretty sure it will.

This is the first DA Ruger I've owned. It's a chunk of steel, and I like it. Not especially pretty or elegant, but a substantial gun. I have .38 Special ammo, and maybe .357 somewhere.

I looked at one today at a LG with a 9 1/2 in barrel and a 399.00 pricetag. Almost brought it home. I GET A 10% discount just not a single action fan....

Yes. Better trigger pull all around. WELL worth the 10-ish bucks.
Thanx - I'll "put it on the list".

Speed Six is a DA revolver. I'm not a SA fan, either.

The spring kit improved the trigger pull in all accounts and I've never had a problem with detonation. It works flawlessly. The Security Six was my hunting OS gun for years. Though I preferred the six inch model I've owned both 4in Speed Six and Security Six.

Took my revolver to the range last night. Well, not to the RANGE range, but in the fireworks of NY, shot it out my back door with reduced light. I was using a combination of light 38 Special and +p .38s. To my landscaping ties it's only about 7 yards.

The +P rounds shot just fine and were pleasant to shoot. The target low performance rounds group well, but shot way low and left. About six inches low and four inches left. Once the fireworks stopped, so did I...no pushing my luck.

I tested two factory loaded 125gr hp 38+p rounds in three different 357 mag revolvers. Black Hills and Winchester Silvertips. The Win load clocked around 830fps and grouped the best in all three guns. The BH load ran almost 940fps but was less accurate. I think both hit pretty close to poa.
