375 dilemma

So I put a Ruger 7mm Rem Mag on layaway to finally build my 375-something (in this case a Ruger).

BUT.... I just got offered a 375 Wby M70 barrel....WITH dies and some cases, for a stupid low price. Like I spend more on gas per month price.

Would you deviate from a plan a bit, if you were able to do so on a budget? I mean, I already have the Mod 70 with the proper magazine (current is a 300 Wby so no feed work, no magazine alteration, no action work, nothing). Some people here spend more on DIES alone then barrel/dies would cost me on this. Rarely shot, it was reamed for a project that never came to be. Yes blah blah blah Weatherby expsnvie cases blah blah....But you can shoot 375 H&H in it for hunting or fireforming, use any full length brass to form. So on and so forth. This would give me the option of using 375 H&H ammo or 375 Wby ammo. Can't really do that with a 375 Ruger. Multiple resources for brass, ammo, bullets....just sending the barrel and action to Calebib to headspace.

Even though it's a compromise it's a good one. The money you save can be used for another project or gun.

I didn't know that 375WBY is an improved case. Very interesting.
I'd go for it, kind of seems a no brainer.

I'd be scared a the recoil.

I think I just flinched reading about it.

Should make a fine rifle for charging elephants.
My thoughts are generally clear. My typing, not so much.

My usual mind numbing running back and forth between what I should do with it until I get a few too many beers in me and order something online late at night.

I may shoot it first (I REALLY should know better then to shoot a donor gun...). A general longish distance big game gun, that won't beat me into oblivion, will be lacking from my arsenal now with the demise of the 300 Wby....unless I made it into a switch barrel...

BUT, been kicking around a 270 Wby, 300 Win, 7-300 Win. That last one I have to see if it has the box to get it done. After I was asking about the 6.5-300 Win Mag I started looking REAL hard into the 7-300. Almost ordered a take off Win 7 Mag barrel to have rechambered. That would have been ideal with the 3.6" magazine and VLD's. Also kicking the idea of a 264 Win around in my head. Always wanted one since I was a kid and read some old gun mags. The guy that introduced me and Steve to muzzle brakes had one, a pre-64. That thing was SWEET.

I was pretty set on the 7-300 until I was on another board reading something about buying parts/equipment for guns you don't have....guy happened to post he bought a 375 H&H barrel reamed to 375 Wby for a push fed Mod 70 he never built and said its for sale if anyone wants it! Then he PM'd me he had dies and some cases, too. Done deal!

It's a .375 H&H with the case blown out to remove the H&H's tapered case. I toyed with the idea of reaming my H&H to the .375 Weatherby....but for 150 fps. it didn't seem like a good return on the reamer and gunsmithing investment.

Probably how I came about this barrel, some guy thought it would change the world, didn't like it, and sold it at a significant loss.
