New Social Media Manager for NRA?

Seriously, they're a national organization claiming to protect my rights, not a hormone-charged teenager.

While what you say is true... pissed off, old, white men are dwindling and they need to reach out to younger and more diverse individuals to stay effective. Social media is a fairly inexpensive way to reach out to others.

We are losing the fight Gentlemen. We have let them corrupt the language and they own the common communication mediums of today. As Jerm said angry old guys listening to AM talk radio is not an effective strategy to preserve our way of life for the future. We have a lot of work to do and quite frankly the NRA is absolutely failing right now at effectively representing the issues and its members. There needs to be some new blood and we need to start learning, and fast.

The target audience for this type social media is supposedly the millennials. That group tends to lean liberal on a lot of issues be it legal pot to immigration. I work with some and believe it or not they all are not dumb enough to blindly follow all of the time. Sure there are idiots who do so but all generations have their idiots. My generation corrupted stuff according to my parents generation ... our rock music and fast cars. Appearance depends on where you are standing and maybe us older talk radio listeners can help some of these in that new target audience "see" a few things. I was lucky enough to have been taught how things like national pride and thriftiness were during WWII by my grandparents and parents. If us old farts can turn enough of the millennials to a more conservative path on certain issues I'll cut them slack on others.

And to be honest, this forum is actually social media-- even pissed off old men use it!

A lot of the new guns purchased in the past few years by folks new to guns are younger people on social media, need to get them up to speed.

I guess my original post wasn't very clear. I'm saying that they NEED a new Social Media Manager after they apparently posted pictures of a couple of pictures of New York Democrats surrounded by loose rounds of handgun and rifle ammo. Easy to see how some could see that as threatening. They need to have someone SOBER overseeing their Social Media presence, whoever approved that post was obviously drunk and/or stoned. Maybe just stupid. Not someone I want representing me.

I misinterpreted the OP, I looked at the link CPJ posted, that, is in poor taste.

I don't think it's going to sway an undecided voter to our side. It's more likely to do a lot of harm than any good at all. A major national political organization should show some maturity with a measured, rational approach. Not saying they should compromise one bit, they can stand firm on their (and our) principles without making juvenile, borderline threatening displays.

If those were pictures of members of my family, there would be some explaining to do.

Same here. That was a stupid thing to do. Sorry I misunderstood. Yes they do need someone, and possibly a group to run their social media. Because again... there are only so many of us pissed off old guys and we really need to get our message out to women, millennials, and urban dwellers. That was a piss poor way of doing it and only reinforces our image as ignorant knuckle draggers.

No need to apologize, I saw their post mentioned on lame-stream media and assumed everyone had seen it. I keep wanting to join the NRA, as they seem to be the most viable Pro Second Amendment organization around, but they keep pulling amateur shenanigans like this.

Sorry I did misinterpret your post. Yes that picture was in poor taste. They need to stop trying to be edgy and stay on message. On the other hand when THEY have a free pass to call our guys extremists, nazis, domestic terrorists and other disgusting derogatory names all day long how come we don't get a pass on anything? I guess freedom of expression only goes one way.

BTW I LOVE that wimp Blasio's "tough" stance on his twitter, "Knock it off NRA". What a miserable turd he is...

I'd like to thank the OP and this post for reminding me to upgrade my life membership to Patron level while the post-holiday push/sale is going strong. I don't give them a dime when they spam me with phone solicitations, but every few years, I try and bump up a lump sum and go for a new life membership level.

As for the social media manager, yeah, I agree. They need to show some tact, especially when social media arguably gets more attention than corporate web pages these days.

OK, I saw the video. The rest of us here saw the video. Maybe a few more will catch it on YouTube, but not many. "If a tree falls in the wilderness ... ?" The NRA would do itself a world of good if it paraphrased this video into a 60 second advertisement and bought prime-time spots in every major market. More than campaign contributions to unreliable A-rated politicos like Manchin and Toomey, more than just preaching to the choir, getting the truth out to the broad masses of workers and peasants would pay off in a surge of membership, and positive public relations. Time to organize a real gun-rights political SuperPac, and let the propaganda wars begin.
