OK this must be awarded the STUPID idea of the century award.

Who comes up with stupid ideas like
this ?

"In a recent column we wrote about a new breed of first time gun owner, seniors who have never before owned a firearm.
People, especially senrios are beginning to understand something about guns and gun crime. There is really only way to guarantee your safety and that’s by procuring your very own firearm.
This is exactly why a gun company has released a brand new weapon, aimed just at seniors.
"Check it out.
Guns.com recently ran an article about a compact, hand-held pistol geared for seniors, the disabled and women called the Palm Pistol. Manufactured by Constitution Arms and conceived by the company’s president, Matt Carmel, the pistol aims at leveling the playing field for those unable to manipulate traditional handguns.
I was recently invited to meet with Carmel out on the range to a first look at his Palm Pistol.
It’s called a palm pistol, it barely looks like a gun, and it can help people fight off intruders with the press of a button."

I found the weapon to be weighted well, especially given that this is intended for seniors and the disabled. It’s not too heavy but it also doesn’t feel like a toy. Protruding outside the oval is a metal barrel with a standard 5/8 muzzle thread and thread protector. Nestled underneath the barrel is a picatinny rail which currently accepts TruGlo Micro Tac and LaserLyte Centermass lasers. "
Talking about adding lasers? a piccatiny rail on a single shot gadget pistol ? SERIOUSLY ????
How does a senior or disabled person with weak fingers and poor coordination even manipulate a gadget gun like that ?
I wish Sam W were here to comment on this !
This is stupid on so many levels !
Yep...1882...and it was a multi-shot firearm...

So don't that push the price up to $ 2,000 +++ $ ?
Just the right price for Senior Citizens that have never owned a gun ? and now need to master a complicated overly expensive gun ?

And it goes BANG more than once.

Yep, some have said creating a likely solution where there is no real problem for other types of new ideas. To me this to me is creating a likely problem where there is no real problem.

I obtained and gifted my uncle Antonio a vintage S&W top break revolver in .38 S&W for personal defense, and he loved how easy he could manage it.
Somehow I believe if somone has so much trouble with a revolver of some sort, this squeeze toy is NOT going to make things any easier, add to the mix an elderly person that has NEVER had a firearm, make it complicated to use, one shot, very very expensive !
THE NEW GUN CONTROL PLAN !!!!
The Obama gun ?? costs lots of $$$$$$ and does not work !!!!!
That vintage S&W was not cheap either !
Was still well under $ 500 and well worth it...
it looked somewhat like this one, with black plastic grips, S&W medalion.
A Ruger single action revolver would make an ideal self defense arm for a senior with compromised hand strength. Even a striker-fired pistol might require more grip strength than some old folks can manage, but virtually anyone can thumb back the hammer of a Blackhawk. .38 special in a .357 is still a pretty potent self defense option, or at least it beats begging for mercy!

And a Ruger is a great value !
It's called a revolver.

Oh......I don't know. It has some pretty stiff competition.

I've met plenty of 'em. Age and arthritis, sometimes coupled with not having ever had much strength even when young and healthy work against a lot of people. Toward the end of her years, my grandmother ended up with a Ruger MKI as her house gun because she couldn't run her old top-break .38S&W anymore. She could grab the "ears" of the bolt and retract it. I doubt she could have cycled much else.
For such issues of feebleness, a DA trigger or thumbing back a hammer is extremely difficult on a good day, and pretty much impossible under stress. Working a slide for a lot of these folks is a challenge as well. Being able to put enough resistance behind an automatic to allow it to run without short-stroking is yet another potential pitfall.
The thing that people like this need most is OPTIONS that help them find the best way to deal with their issues. No, a single shot palm pistol is not an ideal substitute for the 1911 that you can't physically run, but it is still way better than trying to jam your thumbs (your weak, brittle, palsied thumbs) into the eye sockets of someone more than double your weight and less than half your years.
If nothing else, such a tool lets the infirm transform from a tasty and helpless sardine into something more like a pointy, poisonous puffer fish - the shark may kill or seriously mess you up when he tries to eat you, but may get killed or seriously messed up in return.

I thought along the same lines,
but it is shocking how weak some people are, now, especially in women, measureable physical strength has dropped massively from the middle of the last century partly as a result of more sedentary jobs and improvements in home appliances,
next time you are in the office or around a woman under the age of 30 in a non manual job, get her to pull the main blade open on something like a Case large Stockman, my edc knife, and a standard slip joint folder, between long fingernails and poor hand strength I would say a good amount of them would be unable to open it, which to me is shocking, give that level of strength fifty years and you have the inability to pull a DA trigger or potentially thumb back a hammer.
