Written essay required for gun permit?

Seems Lowell, Massachusetts has deemed that you must write an essay stating why you need a gun when applying for a permit...

And with that, I submit this to counter...

What a bunch of libtards! I wonder if they take off for spelling and grammar? Maybe they think they can evaluate the applicants to insure they don't have any mental health issues. How many psychiatrists they have lined up to read all these? I wish this law could go before the SCOTUS.
One question about this. Do cities in Massachusetts still make decisions on concealed carry permits? In Texas and most states this is a state law and city governments have no say in the matter of who gets a carry permit.

Well, why not apply that law to every right, especially voting, free speech and so on. Right to happines? Tell us why you deserve it. How stupid.

Welfare mothers would have to write a 250 word essay on why they want, or need to get knocked up !

Also, I remember studying that very US Code you posted while in a law class in college. It's pretty clear in the grand scheme of things. Now how to adjudicate its abusers?

Don't forget the poll tax to vote back then, too. Sayin'.

I don't agree with such a letter, I don't agree that you should have to pay, in order to excercise a Constaptional right, however, most people find out what are accepted reasons / type of letter is considered acceptable, and reproduce it with enough small differences to not resemble an exact copy of the original letter.
That's exactly why this should go before a higher court or the Supreme Court. You have to apply the law equally. If it's illegal to require a test or written assignment for one right, it is illegal for all rights.

That's the way I see it Robert. It just doesn't pass legitimate Muster.
As for a pole tax, I only wish our founders and Constitution Framers would have elaborated a bit on the thought that those who own property and those who work have a greater stake in this country than those that rely on government and handouts to get by. But back in that time how could they know? I don't think anyone except those totally disabled by age, sickness or injury didn't work. Welfare, as we know it today didn't exist
A pole tax as it was back when it was outlawed mainly was to prevent certain races from voting, well in mass anyway. But a pole tax nowadays wouldn't affect any race as such because more blacks and other minorities work and own property these days. Those that don't work and depend on welfare and handouts aren't limited to any one race anymore.
But a pole tax would cause those who don't work and have very limited funds to not pay it and not vote or at the least less of them would vote. This would help insure those elected to govern us would be more apt to pass laws and govern with the good of the country as a whole in mind.
It wouldn't have to be a tax. Just make it where either you own property or you are gainfully employed. The socialist have engineered the mess we have nowadays where those that have not and don't work and live on government assistance can sway an election in a direction the majority of working Americans don't support. We pay the majority of taxes but have no say.

poll tax...unless you're talking about taxing fishing rods, flag poles, etc...
FELONS are exempt since they can't legally own firearms anyway, so let the rest of us own whatever we want !
Get rid of the stupid term SPORTING in refference to firearms !!!
There are enough contradictions in the Federal regulations on firearms to scrap all of it, if you could get the Courts to accept a case, and put together a legal team willing to work on it.
