That's what I need for hogs. At $600 it is a bargain for the 3-12 power. That's all the magnification I need.
Set my portable blind up at about 150 yards downwind of my blind and have my way with Porky. Or get me a can for my 8mm and have a field day. I guarantee I could get a couple hogs every night on my place with one of these.

It's gotta be Bush's fault. Couldn't be anything to do with Obammy's bans on things he doesn't like.

ITAR dates back to 1976. Gerald Ford, Republican, as POTUS. It was implemented to make sure the Soviets didn't get our gear.
    Meh.

That ban predates Obama, and likely Bush. It's called ITAR. And it's yet another way the government shakes down any company that makes gun related items. If you make say a rifle stock, you get to lay the tax. Even if you don't export a single one. I think it's like $2000 per year.

That was meant as a Joke, I had no clue.

However, it doesn't surprise me that it happened under Ford. The Republicans were walking softly at that time, since what had just transpired with Nixon. So if it was something anti gun that caused it to go through, that could have been a reason. They probably weren't real kean on 2A matters and probably let the Antis push a lot of Garbage by them. Most Repubs were just trying to survive politically at the time. But that's a Whole Nuther Story.

However, that was in the height of the cold war so it could very well been as was said about keeping the Russians from getting our gear.

One of our range ninjas (no not Gecko45) who has more toys than Richie Rich has the 3-12 and we made fun of him ... until we played with it. In the limited time in the daylight it was fun. It did eat batteries at about 1 set per hour and half and acts up on weak batteries. I also wonder about the recoil effects on the electronics. As to price he ordered his in a package off Amazon for right at $500 with an external power pack, cord and memory card. I would not count the on it for my life or on the hunt of a lifetime but I wouldn't mind one for a birthday present for craps and giggles!

    I gotcha NCFUBAR

But night time Hog Hunting isn't the hunt of a life time. This would just make things easier. Of course I could buy a lot of LEDs with Red covering to put on my Feeder and do the same thing, but the night vision is just cool and easy, well other than costing so much.

Actually, reading Jeff in Texas review on this, I"m thinking to just get some 12 volt red LEDs and hang from my feeder. I tried this about three years ago, but only shot at a possum and a ****. But that was back when the hogs were a bit more scarce.

I have this exact unit. There are pros and cons with it. First, the cons, it will chew up 4 AA Duracell alkaline batteries is less than an hour, more like 45 minutes. The FLIR that comes with it will provide enough IR light for shots to maybe 85 yards, 100 if you're really stretching it. Both are easy solutions to fix, I got some ultra AA batteries with 9 time the length of a normal AA alkaline battery. On eBay I found a 5 watt, LED FLIR 850 nm 1 inch tube flashlight for about $29.00. It doubled my night vision capabilities to 175 yards. which is father than I'll need to shoot at night on my ranch.

Make sure when you get your unit you buy a mini SD flash card, go online and upgrade the firmware. You can't see through the scope without it powered on, it projects the vision on the internal viewer. At night the picture is pretty dang clear. We like the white back ground the best over the green. During the day, the further you look out the picture will become a bit grainy. I use quick detachable rings on my normal day scope and keep it on the rifle until dusk. I pop it off and put the NV scope on for night hunting. It holds a zero pretty good. You can't leave it on all the time or you'll be blowing through batteries.

All in all I like mine!

As you can see I have the T20 zoom flash light. I used a 1" QD warn ring to attached the scope. Works great. BTW this LED flash light body was a hair undersized so I put a wrap of electrical tape around it and it fits into the 1" QD rings snugly. When I zoom in I can can shoot to 175 yeards maybe a tad more. I know there are better FLIR on the market that can reach out 500 plus yards but I didn't want to spend $175 or $200 more than I paid for the scope.

If someone wants to know how good the NV is, it's comparable to a good Gen II traditional NV at a fraction of the cost. This is 1st Gen digital NV and it's only going to get better as well as battery life and everything else. If you run the WiFi, GPS or video player your battery will discharge faster than your speedometer. Like i said I really like mine and I know the limitations.
