Well, it seems it's my turn again.

My FIL, Gary was diagnosed with colon cancer a little over two years ago. Upon removal of the bad section, the docs found the cancer had spread to his liver as well. Fast forward to this past Wednesday, after several different protocols, treatments and a couple of operations, the docs delivered 'the' talk. They have exhausted every option, as his liver function will not support further medication. His liver has thrown in the towel. It's all over, except for making him comfortable and being together as family. The best case scenario is a few months. Mrs. cgg and the kids are taking this hard, as would be expected... but so am I. Over the 31 years that I have known him, he has become a good friend and all the more so since my own father's death almost 14 years ago.

This is a tough one...

I'm sorry your FIL has to go through this. A friends wife had liver cancer and didn't make it, so I have a small understanding of what you're going through. Best wishes to you and your family.

If you haven't done so already, contact your local hospice organization. Dad went into a progressively-worsening kidney failure situation over the span of about two years, and hospice in Knoxville Tennessee was very instrumental in keeping him comfortable during the final 4 months of his life. I have a friend in Chattanooga who is an administrator of the hospice there, and they are some of the most caring, considerate people I've ever met. Knee mail on the way!
