Little concered about PSA results, at first
Well, I had my PSA blood test drawn yesterday at the Urologist office and have my annual exam and poke next week. So their office calls to remind me of my appointment next week and I ask if my PSA results were back and gal says yes. I ask what it was, she say she isn't allowed to tell me over the phone and a nurse would have to tell me............immediately I'm thunking this could be bad because I used to get them read to me over the phone all the time.
So for about 2 hours I'm sitting here letting my imagination get the best of me, even though I know HIPPA has some strict rules............
Call came back from a nurse and she said it was .01 :applause::applause:
It has been either that or .1 for about 7 or 8 years now since I was treated for prostrate cancer back in 07, depending on the Lab machine used.
To tell the truth, I haven't wanted to go near a doctor or hospital since Mrs Chief passed and was thinking oh great this is all I need right now. Mind can wonder. In fact, I cancelled my Jan appt because all her issues and just now got it all rescheduled.
Everyone tells me I have to start taking care of myself, true enough, I reckon.
Anyway, you guys stay on track with your PSA test/finger wave.

It's only true if it's on this forum where opinions are facts and facts are opinions

Dang Yankee, lol, no yankee plostlate, prant ( Ladioactive ) seeds !
Not for me - having seen my father's situation, if this happens to me, I'm going for the most radical treatment possible. Get this thing OUT of my body! Then nuke it, then maybe some chemo. Dad delayed it 20 years, but it got him in the end even though his was removed in the day - BUT they didn't do follow-on radiation/chemo back then.
Have you recovered from your cranial thump yet?

( cosmic knife ) more people will survive cancers hitherto considered terminal.
No, still recovering, however, they did several scans of my head, and they found NOTHING !!!!!!!!
Had an eye exam, they said: Your eyes are normal, great even, too bad the rest of you isn't !!!!

Post radiation, my last PSA was near zero, BTW.
Good news MMD :applause::applause:
Oh, a nurse did call me back with the results. They have some way you can sign up for results now and go to a website and get it too.
I see the point one one hand where your doc wants to see you too, I wouldn't miss that for anything, we only get together once a year anymo :tooth:
Besides after having prostrate cancer in the past, I want the two best ways they can use for early detection done on me annually which are a PSA test and finger wave to check for enlargement.
I didn't say I liked it cpj................just gotta be done.

out of the capsule before the radiation bit. I would think the Doc would tell ya the same.
If "LabCorp" does your tests, you can log in on there web site and print out the results, I have been printing my tests for years. I always get my labs and results before I see the doc, I keep a chart of the important stuff ( PSA, Cholesterol etc.) that way if something shows up abnormal I can question the doc.
I know that LabCorp is not the only lab that will let you get your results,

Well, yea - of course. I'd definitely do the biopsy and everything - but if it were to be cancer, it's GONE. The only thing I have going for me with this family history is that my dad had the "Big V" done back in the day, and I didn't. That *can* be a contributing factor. My mother's side is riddled with cancer too - but they all smoked like coal fired locomotives.
Maybe the new leadership enforces HIPPA more or I just got a hold of an appointment maker/receptionist who follows the rules , I dunno.

Yep, medical science progresses on. However, I will say that the biggest best thing you can do to improve your chances of survival is early detection before it has a chance to spread to other organs or worse, bone. That's why yearly checkups are important. My PSA got up into the 3s here a couple years back, but it dropped into the 2s again. I am going for the finger wave and this years PSA soon. Don't put off the check ups.
And as far as having it removed, my first cousin was diagnosed at age 45 and had his completely removed and he recovered ALL his bodily functions. BTW, he was followed up with a bunch of radiation, so I believe Zorba's plan has merit.
However, my dad was diagnosed with a fairly aggressive form and had 40 Radiation treatments ancomd it cured him. However, he died 3 years later from complications from Parkinson's.
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
