Happened upon an armed robbery in progress...

This morning on the way to work, saw several cop cars converge on a Jack in the Box as I was approaching the intersection. Cop cars were coming from every direction and one already there had a cop exiting with an AR, and another exiting on the other side with a riot gun. The good news is, I wasn't inside! The better news is, it was one of those rare occasions where the bad guy was still in the place and they caught him. It is very rare when the cops get there when it's still going down. Kudos to the Swansea and Belleville PDs.

By the way, Swansea Illinois PD carries Kimber and Springfield 1911s! They look soooooo good in the holsters!

The bad news is, I'll bet the scumbag survived getting arrested!

Did you have any sudden strong feeling to rush in and help out Dan? :tooth:

Getting your ticket punched by friendly fire wouldn't be a good way to go, good intentions notwithstanding! Sounds like the gendarmes had the situation well in hand!

You're right, Jerry! But remember.....Dan was an armed counterintel type for years, and even though he's now in a totally opposite type profession and environment, I'm sure that the "thought" surged forward in his mind! His simple 5 word reply proves me correct!

Jerry, I've seen a lot of cops shoot. I wouldn't have gone anywhere near there. I'm just saying there was an instinct that kicked in.

Yep, I get an urge to operate on a B-52's electronics every time I hear a set of jet engines winding up! Old habits die hard!

With the current spate of attacks on cops, every time I see a set of police lights on I go into orange mode just incase some miscreant is roughing up our boys and girls in blue. In this case, one can also look to the fact that while I don't often use this Jack in the Box, I've stopped in there maybe one time so far this year for my AM breakfast, it puts me within that 500 foot radius for being present during a violent crime. When we start disbelieving if it can happen to us, something comes along to disturb our apathy.

Always different when you hear about it on the news, maybe at a location you might know, but not near you or going down as you pass by. Then when you actually see it in progress, it puts a different perspective on things.

    Any updates on the robbery?

Updates? Well, they're not releasing his identity yet. So, I know what I can assume from that. It's not politically correct at this time.

    Just happened by? Likely story...

You just left your accomplices there for the cops, didn't you?
