This is right up there with "Racking a pump action to scare the bad guy"

Folks, I am copy and pasting this because I don't want to chance something getting lost in translation:

"You can also add several cc's of oil in the round to keep the bird shot clumped together for a longer distance as well."

The subject was birdshot for home defense.

I've had enough internet for the day.

    Just get some slugs

Or just heat the led up and melt it into one mass

Actually, the real way this was done was cut around about a quarter inch above the bottom of the base of the power piston (Plastic Wad) around the circumference of the shell where the crimped end of the shot shell would stay with the wad and shot column where it would stay together as one unit. It's called a CUT LOAD! And it's capable of long distance.

We used to make cut loads to shoot at rafted up ducks out on the bay to get them to fly. I'm talking about ranges out to 300-400 yards. Of course the ducks usually flew in the wrong direction, but that's beside the point, the cut load would get them to fly if you got it close to the ducks, for a couple hundred yards in the wrong direction. And I never saw a cut load kill a duck either.

I've even shot at high flying geese with them but never killed a goose either. That's the ultimate Sky Busting Load. Actually, it's the ultimate Waste of shot and powder.

We weren't doing any rescues, that was a huge photo op. I ended up landing a sweet gig with these guys:

Because the sound of me racking a shell into the chamber scared them off!

I could see solidified wax having some limited success holding shot together at short ranges, but oil?? Not until the laws of physics are suspended.

Well, if we're talking about steel shot, and since steel shot is (are?) basically ball bearings...I could see grease making the shot (bearings) fly longer and more quietly. Seems legit. However, I'm pretty sure grease and oil are meant to keep surfaces apart, not together.

Scratching my head wondering; What am I reading. Home Defense shot gun load ? Oil the shot in the shell ? Oil takes the bang out of powder better than water. How about a load of lead BB's out of a Duck Bill shotgun barrel. Oh yeah and Shoot'em in the face.

I think Winchester loads a buck&ball type shell.

I don't think using tinkered shell's for serious business is a good idea.
My thoughts are generally clear. My typing, not so much.

I'd venture to say that shooting them in the face would be quite effective irrespective of barrel type or shot type.

At muzzle-to-face-contact distance even #12 dust shot would suffice.
