IIRC, in Pete Capsticks book "Death in the Long Grass", there was a chapter where he claimed a BIG crocodile pretty much lost most of the top of his head to a .460 Wthby and they left to go hunt and when they came back there was a scavenger bird in its mouth.

Makes my J-frame and my speedloaders of Hornady Critical Defense, Starfires, and Federal Hydra-Shok .38 +P's seem lacking, that being said, I would be out of ammo or the gorilla would be down once the kid got touched.
I think a .38 Special would only exacerbate the gorilla's feeling of threat and cause it to harm the kid rather than removing that threat. A 400 pound gorilla needs something more than a .38 Special to remove the threat. Not enough gun, IMO, and intervention with an inadequate weapon could cause more harm than good.
Concealed carry is for protection, open carry is for attention.

You are correct, but doing nothing and the child is being harmed is far worse in my world.

My kid? I'd have been in that enclosure at slide lock and reloading before the first pansy screamed, "Somebody do something!"
And likely were it someone else's kids too.
Yep. I don't know if 15 or 30 rounds of .40 S&W would stop/kill/scare off a 400lb adult silverback gorilla......but we'd be finding out quick, fast, and in a hurry.

And, as a related incident, what do you toss in the golf club bag for this bad boy? Another reason why winters with snow are better:jester:
