It was dark. The moon hadn't appeared yet............... Reaching into my back pocket, I pulled the round canister and tamped it's lid. Opening it up, I expertly pinched a semi moist ball of Copenhagen between my thumb and forefinger, and placed it into my cheek. The bitter sweet juice immediately reached my palate, and I savored the flavor a moment before spitting a golden brown stream into the dense field grass..........

Nice. You need a Go PRO. I'd love to watch the video of that action.

I quit at Christmas, but, I could pretty much taste the Copenhagen. Made my mouth water.

:Tooth: She's not that broad minded, more's the pity.

And that's the first time I've ever been compared to Hemingway. I'm thinking about embellishing this story a bit and turning it in for my upcoming Lit class creative writing assignment.

The prof will either be impressed or disgusted.

Ha. Left her butt snoring on the couch. Still there when I got home from defending the farm.

    She's so unappreciative.

The only question I have is why not use something a little less powerful, like your .270? Was you fearful of them critters?

Gladly. I'm running low on shot shells. Tried to find some online yesterday. Everybody is out of stock. I haven't bought ammo of any kind in a while. Is .22 ammo ever coming back?
Great write up. This reminds me I need a .22 revolver.

Thanks. Hey... What would you do for a .22 revolver? Cpj, I think I found his bottom price!

Can we expect something like "Buffco's Deer: The One That Got Away" in a future edition?

Try loading some .38 or .44 shot shells , mine are pretty effective at @ 8-10 feet. I think I used unique powder.

Going to have to. Rimfire ammo is non existent.

I have some .357 shot shells, but they're full power I think. Daddy would be pissed if I shot his feeder full of holes.

Find some #12 shot. It's tiny. Should be ok on the feeder.
That's what's in the 22. They won't even puncture the plastic hopper front. But wouldn't 38s blow a hole in it?

So shoot straight down, that way the holes are "drain holes" in case water does get in.

I use a couple of gas checks for the handgun shotshells I handload- - - -one over the powder, and another over the shot, with a moderate roll crimp to retain the top one. .45 Colt brass with Unique and #9 shot is pretty effective, even on rats. weigh the shot charge to figure out how much powder to use. A piece of dowel rod and a small ball **** hammer is used to set the gas check, plus a little bit of case mouth expansion to help insert the GC. Set the case onto a nylon bench block while tapping the GC into position.

.38 special brass could be loaded the same way for a lower-power shotshell.

Is there any special kind of gas check required? Does this serve as the shot wad?

A gas check is just a cup-shaped copper disc used on the base of cast bullets. They usually come in quantities of 1,000 anywhere reloading supplies are sold. Sometimes I run across a bargain price on Ebay.

Edit: banned on ebay now- - - -try Amazon:

A piece of cardboard works fine for shot shells. I also used some thin horsehide on some .38's with No. 6 shot, then used hot glue to seal the case mouth. I made mine pretty hot, because I wanted to use them for finishing off wounded doves. But you could load down for your furry critters - they are much easier to kill, and at closer range.

Wonder how 7shot with wads would work over say 30gr 3F out of a Walker repro....
