It was dark. The moon hadn't appeared yet............... Reaching into my back pocket, I pulled the round canister and tamped it's lid. Opening it up, I expertly pinched a semi moist ball of Copenhagen between my thumb and forefinger, and placed it into my cheek. The bitter sweet juice immediately reached my palate, and I savored the flavor a moment before spitting a golden brown stream into the dense field grass..........

And that's the first time I've ever been compared to Hemingway. I'm thinking about embellishing this story a bit and turning it in for my upcoming Lit class creative writing assignment.
I could use your big game skill here. I got mice and this dern cat ain't worth an empty tobbaco tin.
Gladly. I'm running low on shot shells. Tried to find some online yesterday. Everybody is out of stock. I haven't bought ammo of any kind in a while. Is .22 ammo ever coming back?
A real nice narrative Buffy, complete with photos. I just have two questions, what did they dress out at, and do you have any good recipes to share? robin

I use a couple of gas checks for the handgun shotshells I handload- - - -one over the powder, and another over the shot, with a moderate roll crimp to retain the top one. .45 Colt brass with Unique and #9 shot is pretty effective, even on rats. weigh the shot charge to figure out how much powder to use. A piece of dowel rod and a small ball **** hammer is used to set the gas check, plus a little bit of case mouth expansion to help insert the GC. Set the case onto a nylon bench block while tapping the GC into position.
.38 special brass could be loaded the same way for a lower-power shotshell.

A gas check is just a cup-shaped copper disc used on the base of cast bullets. They usually come in quantities of 1,000 anywhere reloading supplies are sold. Sometimes I run across a bargain price on Ebay.
Is there any special kind of gas check required? Does this serve as the shot wad?
A piece of cardboard works fine for shot shells. I also used some thin horsehide on some .38's with No. 6 shot, then used hot glue to seal the case mouth. I made mine pretty hot, because I wanted to use them for finishing off wounded doves. But you could load down for your furry critters - they are much easier to kill, and at closer range.

I bought one recently. I got the 4 inch birdshead.

I would not mind snicking the safety off this revolver;
"the .38 high velocity (.38 Colt ACP) version had eight chambers"
Very Hemingway-esque Buffy. :worthy:
Your spouse must be awfully broad minded.
I quit at Christmas, but, I could pretty much taste the Copenhagen. Made my mouth water.

The prof will either be impressed or disgusted.
She's so unappreciative.

You've got quite a talent for word smithing yourself.

Glad you enjoyed it.
It's quite dangerous sport.

Thanks. Hey... What would you do for a .22 revolver? Cpj, I think I found his bottom price!
I need a badge on the side of my grip.
Great idea.
Thanks.
High praise indeed. Thanks.
Thank you.
I'll be sure. You guys keep sending the checks, I'll keep writing!
Nice! Didn't know they made a bird's head grip. Did you post a thread about it with pics?

I have some .357 shot shells, but they're full power I think. Daddy would be pissed if I shot his feeder full of holes.

So shoot straight down, that way the holes are "drain holes" in case water does get in.
