"Once commissioned, the USNS Harvey Milk would be part of the John Lewis-class oilers, a class named after Georgia Congressman and civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, and Mabus has said this particular class of vessels would be named after various leaders from the civil rights movement."

Oh the jokes are going to be endless!!!
Oil em up good Harvey.

:cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss: PC horse manure run amok. That is the kind of thing that happens when Liberal **** fools with less brain cells than a jellyfish make decisions about Navy vessels and throw tradition to the wind. With any luck the piece of crap will sink during launching when no one is aboard.

Yep. What does Harvey Milk have to do with the Navy, or defending our nation?

Next up: USS Jesse Jackson! :vomit: You heard it here first!

Would that ship be used for DE-FUELING? I'll bet it's going to have a lot of suction!

This may have something to do with the political bent on this naming:

Oilers (AO) are generally named after cities, and sometimes naval heroes or people that were instrumental in the war effort during WWII and previous wars.

Fleet Oilers, Fleet Replenishment Oilers (AO, T-AO)

    USNS Henry J. Kaiser (T-AO-187)
    USNS Joshua Humphreys (T-AO-188)
    USNS John Lenthall (T-AO-189)
    USNS Andrew J. Higgins (T-AO-190)
    USNS Benjamin Isherwood (T-AO-191)
    USNS Henry Eckford (T-AO-192)
    USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO-193)
    USNS John Ericsson (T-AO-194)
    USNS Leroy Grumman (T-AO-195)
    USNS Kanawha (T-AO-196)
    USNS Pecos (T-AO-197)
    USNS Big Horn (T-AO-198)
    USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO-199)
    USNS Guadalupe (T-AO-200)
    USNS Patuxent (T-AO-201)
    USNS Yukon (T-AO-202)
    USNS Laramie (T-AO-203)
    USNS Rappahannock (T-AO-204)
    USNS John Lewis (T-AO-205)

Naming that, or any other USN ship outside the traditional naming process is......................unacceptable.

The entire U.S. military is being turned into a big bowl of granola(fruits, nuts, and flakes) by the social engineering fools in D.C. that never served a day in uniform in their lives. Doesn't make a damn if they can win battles as long as they are all inclusive. Maybe the M1 Abrams replacement will be named the M2 Tutti Frutti, and the next Air force jet the F36 Love Muffins. :roll2:

I would think they would be unwilling to name the ship after Mr. Milk for fear it would go down.

    Just a boat joke...

Ships don't have impellers; they have screws! :rotflmao:
And if you fall overboard and go through one of them, you can expect to be sliced and diced into shark sized bites for the fishies!

Probably. There was once a Belly Dance troupe called "The Veiled Threats". And another one called "Sahara Mascara", but I'm digressing now.

Well... I always heard that 72 sailors went out on the submarine and 36 couples came back... How many sailors are on a ship of that size again? Hmmm...
