Walmart has closeout on Marlin 45-70s...... Yes I did fer $299

Big ChiefBig Chief Senior MemberPosts: 32,995 Senior Member
Or clearance sale.....I happened to be poking around on another forum and some guy said in Oregon they had them marked way down for $299, another feller said not in his area so I said naw sounds too good to happen locally. So I called yes they had one $299 clearance sale, don't know about others in stock.........so I shaved and showered and kept telling myself I don't need another gun .............I don't need another gun.......especially a 45-70 I have heart stents and maybe I should avoid the real thumpers........even though doc said no extensive shotgunning for the first year..........been almost 3 now....should be fine.............

So I drove to Walmart and yep one in the spindle.......had a Rollback price for 30 bucks off, but I asked and he said yep $299 any in stock Nope that's it.......didn't wanna hesitate or think about it or it might be gone........OK I'll take it :guns: :guns:

Another feller walks ups and sees it as they are running the BG check and he says he has been eyeballing that one for awhile, but was hoping the price would drop...I tell him well it was really marked down........and I too give the spindle a spin every time I come in. He asks the clerk and nope that's it.........and tells me "Enjoy Your New Gun............" and I could see in his eyes he was wishing it was his real bad.

Thing is no Clearance tag was on it just the small Rollback of 30 bucks or so......I may never even have known except for poking around gun forums.

Anyhow, I couldn't hep myself.........an addiction/illness sorta..........what will I do with it, I don't hunt and don't plan on hiking or camping in bear country.....even though black bears have been around the neighborhoods close to me lately..........that's it justification case I'm attacked or the old folks next door in my back yard and happen to have it handy.........:jester:

Anyhow I have owned only one other lever gun a Win in .32 Spl the old man gave me that I left with while stationed overseas and it got stolen.

I reckon this means YET ANOTHER caliber to reload for so I'll probably order some dies and bullets soon. Maybe shoot Cowboy like milder loads outta it to start off.

It is a Marlin model 1895 45-70 Govt 4 shot tubular mag and 22' bbl that's all I know about it so far.

    Big Chief,
Nice grab. Both I and Jeeper have the guide gun in 45-70. Get some of the 325 gr Lever-evolution ammo. No hard kick and is stupid accurate.

Anyone standing there when they closed those out would be insane not to grab one. Excellent score!

Dude you suck. I would definitely have slept on the couch and ate Ramen for that deal.

If I had of been 30 minutes later that fellow who has been eyeballing them would have been escorted to the front door by the manager for the silly "Hand-Off" instead of me.

I like MBC cast bullets in my .45 Colt I see they offer .458 and .459 dia bullets? Coated or plain cast?

I'm reading .459 dia cast bullets are the best for this model?????

I had to run up to Wally World for something else and checked to see if they had one and they did but it was only marked down to 384.00 from 399.00. A fair price but not as good as 299.00. I have an 1895 now but it's a 26" octagonal barrel and I've been wanting a shorter barrel also. You can never have too many leverguns.

Maybe they will drop the price to $299 if you show them that you can get it cheaper at one of their other stores..............Could be worth a try.

Dang, Big Chief! :yousuck::yousuck::yousuck: Great price on that rifle. With the Ballard deep cut rifling that thing will shoot lead bullets well. I have the guide gun with the deep rifling. Fun shooter!

Since you have the stints and all that, I highly suggest 300-350 grain lead or jacketed bullets and Trail Boss powder. A .45-70 doesn't have to be painful to shoot. With the weight of that rifle the 300-350 grainers over Trail Boss are easy on the shoulder and high on the smile factor.

Helluva deal....If I didn't already have 4 .45-70s I'd be all over it....I'm getting my best performance from my 1895 with cast 405 grain RNFPs...doesn't seem to like jacketed bullets as well. I've got some 300 grain cast hollow points I'm going to mess with...should be a good deer thumper....

You suck................really really suck. Just to show you how much you suck, have a look at this link.

    http://www.guncity.com/45-70-marlin-1895-govt.-22-blued-walnut-227698

Convert the NZD to USD and it would be $1233USD.................

Did I say you really really suck!

The price you paid converted to NZD makes that a $400nzd plus change.

You are now on my ignore list.............Looking forward to the range report.
