Big Montana Merriam's Gobbler down
I'm in Montana on our annual deer hunting trip. More on the deer part when I get time to write a complete hunt report. Anyway...

We got permission on an 11,000+ acre ranch that had plenty of Merriam's turkeys on it. I bought a tag over-the-counter and proceeded to fill it with a 22 lb. gobbler with ~6.5" beard, which is pretty good for these Western birds. It was a great way to cap off a successful deer hunt! I went from never having killed a Fall turkey coming into this year to having my second in a season with this and my PA bird. Looks like I'll be adding a fan/beard mount to my European whitetail deer mount!
Better still, my buddies bought tags after I got my bird and managed to score. Even though they both neglected to bring a shotgun, I let them borrow mine, and they got a *shared-gun double*: one shot a gobbler, quickly passed the gun to the other guy, and BOOM - we had 2 more birds down!
(Mine was still the biggest, of course :jester:)

This was our best hunt ever out here!

Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.

Hopefully, New Zealand with orchidman isn't too far off!

That's awesome! That was the nutty thing. We had several roosters show up in the turkey flocks pecking around with them!
