STANAG solution?

bruchibruchi Posts: 2,581 Senior Member
Just got an HK Claw Mount I will be using to mount a scope on the 308 PRT-91, a US made clone of the HK-91, they make stanag to picatinny rails but they seem to be cheap and I would rather use the STANAG rings directly on the claw mount, thing is all I can find are ARMS and Valdada's STANAG rings but they are 30mm and I of course want to get a decent but AFFORDABLE scope for this rifle and that with a 30mm tube has proven hard to do, more so one with mildots or milliradians and exposed turrets!

Looking for ideally a 2.5-10x scope or something around that magnification, a bit more, less is okay, but something that starts at most at 4x. A fixed 4x could do in a pinch as well but that is last pic.

i suppose that ring inserts could do, are they one size fits all, are they reliable. also read that too big a scope could interfere with the gun's function?

I was planning on selling this rifle, then I read up some and see that the serial number starts with an A so it has the preffered barrel so now I go and do this!

Problem is that latter I am going to want the adjustable Magpul stock for it, the neat wooden grip, a forearm with rails....

I would think your best bet would be the ARMS rings and their #37 inserts.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil: For I carry a .308 and not a .270

Thanks olesniper, found the rings and inserts on Brownells, Vortex has a 3.5-10X 44mm scope that is very affordable and they seem to have a very good reputation, it is a 1" tube deal but that will be solved with the inserts and if I upgrade to another scope I got then both options

Can you post a pic of the rifle? Just for fun.

I don't know but the Nikon 223 scope or some other purely AR style scope might be nice, or if you want to go first class, a Leupold or Nikon 2.5 or is it a 3 to 10 scope would be nice on that baby. The Monarch or the VX-3 will be a great asset to that rifle.

It is 308, I ordered a Viper Crossfire 3.5-10X 44mm, it is the "affordable" line of them and it is to hold me over and see how accurate this thing can get. Got the rifle originally to make a poor man's HK PSG-1 of sorts and I am learning that this one might not be so far from that one accuracy wise as the PSG-1 is not a 1000 yard solution, more of an urban 300 yard thing, a very expensive one.
