No moose today but a nice deer buck

We were hunting with rather small entourage today. Tomorrow we'll be celebrating Father's Day here in Finland and won't be going for hunt tomorrow. We saw a couple of moose today but no one was in a position to shoot. But, I was lucky again and I got a nice buck from the daschhunds' drive. It came full throttle with the doe across the big rock area in the middle of the forest. I had my 798 with me today. Luckily as I got my Zeiss on it on this rainy and miserably weather today. It helped me to take necessary lead and take my shot. Actually I shot it twice and later found out that one would have been enough. Other bullet took care of the lungs and other one went through the liver.
Anyway, I'm very happy for the day despite the horrible weather today. My eight deer this season.

Finnish immigrants who had moved to Minnesota wanted to give a present to Finnish hunters and shipped ten white tail deer to Finland in 1934. Slowly the population started to grow and the first deer was hunted -58 if I remember correctly. Nowadays we have a population of about 80 thousand. This year there’s about 35 thousand hunting licenses approved from the game management.
The most surprising thing is that it’s genetically totally healthy population even as it’s based on a handfull of deer.

Very nice. And looks like one heck of a fun area to drag a dead deer through......brings back a few, challenging....memories.

    Well done.

That's really cool, so have they spread out to Sweden or Russia?

No, they live just in southern/south-west part of the Finland. :)
