Cheka Centennial
20 decmeber 1917 is the day the Soviet Secret police then called the Cheka which stands for All Russian Extraordinary commission for Combating Counter -Revolution and Sabotage. Lets remember all the tens of millions of people this organization murdered, jailed ,tortured, deported ect.
The founder of the Cheka Felix Dzerzhinsky once had a girlfriend named Sabina Feinstein Yuri Adropov had of the Soviet secret police renamed the KGB and short time Soviet leader his mother was named Eugina Fainshtein (Feinstein?)
The Cheka was involved in gun confiscation they would go to a village take hostages and tell the remainder to turn in a quota of firearms in 24 hours or the hostages will be shot. the Cheka also surrounded entire city blocks and searched them for illegal firearms. One has wondered where a certain US Senator named Feinstein gets her gun control ideas?
see the Cheka on wiki for more info

Wikipedia article is a little light on the actual body count, but has some gruesome pictures of the victims of Stalin's starve them out campaign.
