The real S&W M&P

Freed this one from jail today. It's dates to sometime in the late 20's or early 30's.
The grips definitely aren't period correct on it.

I'd rather have one like that than a basket full of plastic fantastic semis, especially the ones they call M&Ps today.

I'm sorry about the initial pictures.
I had them edited in PB but the unedited ones keep popping up.
Trying to figure out some anomalies on it/the gun now.

Never seen one with such a mirror finish.....yet doesn't look refinished.

I think you have the period just right! See if you can find some period grips for it. It's in very good shape.

edit: I believe it's been refinished. The logo on the side looks a little buffed out and the blue is too brilliant. Not that it matters. My old one is in good shape, but the blue has possibly aged into a nice but not brilliant finish. Look on the top of the barrel at the lettering and that might possibly show you more information.

To heck with period correct grips - the ones on it look fantastic!

Gene I've never seen one with this mirror blue finish either.
    I'm still thinking not refinished.
If you look at the hammer stud right below thumb piece it is still perfectly domed.
The sideplate seem is also perfect
Sorry Zorba I'm with Gene grips gotta go

Even though the first pics are blurry I think I see holster ware at the muzzle. No rub marks at all on the trigger and minimum scribe by the bolt stop on the cylinder. Why not original finish? Looks NIB.

It's definitely a weird one to try and figure out Mike.
It does have holster wear at the end of the muzzle.
When I first examined it I couldn't pop the ejector rod because of the dried grease though.
Also lacks the address bar which it should have.

Lacks the address bar where? Should be on top of the barrel. The slick right side panel indicates an older gun; I think they didn't start putting "Made in USA" until the 20s.
