Dog Rash

Talked to my son today and he said our smaller pup has developed a rash on her stomach. We haven't switch dog foods, haven't used a new soap or anything, and she hasn't been exposed to anything other than the back yard...

Any clues or help in fixing it would be great.

Could be mites, plenty of cures on the web for that.

Wouldn't that effect my other dog? They share a crate and sleep space

My first go-to rash remedies are Bag Balm and Dr. Merricks Sulfadene Ointment....if those don't work, it's off to the vet...

could it be from posion ivy/ oak/ sumac/ stinging nettles that the smaller pup gets hit by that the taller pup might have the ground clearance to nit hit?

Chiggers, mites, and TICK NYMPHS would be my first three guesses. Chiggers get dogs, too, especially small pups. And ticks in the nymph stage are my second guess and the most likely culprit this time of year. Have your son look at the rash with a magnifying glass; those tick nymphs are HARD to see without some magnification.

Our dog is using a powder the vet gave us that seems to be working called neo-predef. Seems to be working on our dog. She had a rash and a really bad ant bite that was starting to get infected.

Depends on the breed, diet and other variable I suppose. Dogs are not that much different than people and physically change often. It definitely could be the dog food, but if it gets table scraps maybe it got something that caused the rash.....yet unlikely food intake. It is getting into summer so it could be something like weeds, bug bites or dryness. I would put some anti itch ointment on her belly, and if it doesn't itch her bad, let it be but keep an eye on it. If she has it for maybe a week or two take her to the vet. I have a retriever with sensitive skin. He gets what looks like a heat rash on his belly, but it goes away withing days when we have a break in the heat,
