Warning Will Robinson! Danger! Danger! California splitting into three states

tennmiketennmike Posts: 27,457 Senior Member
IF California is allowed to split into three states, THEN THAT WOULD ADD 4 MORE SENATORS FROM THAT LIBERAL LA LA LAND! Therein lies the ugly side of their splitting into three states. As planned, there will be enough huge cities in each new state to keep the states extremely liberal/progressive. The balance in the Senate, already a freakin' mess, would get more imbalanced. And more reps in the House would make it even worse.

Their ideas aren't all stupid.  This one would allow one state to triple its representation.

As I understand it...there are some parts of CA that are pretty conservative...so they could be shooting themselves in the foot

And they are outnumbered by the granola munchin' progressolibs that ran the state into the ground. Instead of one huge socialist basket case there would be THREE GRADE A EXTRA LARGE socialist basket cases. If you look how they cut up the state, the humongous liberal enclaves way outnumber the conservatives. Only hope is that Congress tells them to go pound sand if California does somehow make the referendum pass.

The Constitution doesn't allow for dividing up an existing state into new states, regardless of what happened viz West Virginia.
Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 is THE LAW for admitting new states. I put the juicy part in bold type.

    Section 3.

New states may be admitted by the Congress into this union; but no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.

Congress is the last resort to head this mess off, and I hope they have the sense to do so. Just think of FOUR MORE Feinsteins and/or Kamala Harris clones in the U.S. Senate!

Most of the state is conservative. Anything north of San Francisco. Anything outside the greater LA/San Diego area. Anything outside of Sacramento.

Take a look at how the state has been divided in three parts. The Progressive/Liberal/Democrats outnumber the Conservatives by a large margin in each one. If you think that division was an accident, then I have some great info on Gulf Coast property in Montana you might find interesting. :)

I'd rather they became a new country, maybe North Mexico.

You are 100% accurate. It worked in Oregon, Washington state(for those who may be thinking DC). Mostly in Colorado, and 100% in Hawaii which was probably hopeless anyway. Most of the states 90% of the geographical area being conservative with the liberal heavily populated cesspools overpowering the vote! It would of course work for dividing 'Commiefornia'!

Since I now live about 12 miles away from the actual 'cuckoos nest' (Oregon State Hospital) and working there one night. With the addition of living in the Los Angeles Metro area for 3 years in the mid 1970s qualifies me to diagnose California's insane politics. "The lunatics are definitely running the asylum"!!!

It was divided by Gerrymandering on a statewide scale to ensure that outcome. No other reason is possible or plausible for the division as it was done.
